I was wondering if we could get a NATS location a little closer to the west coast. We have a couple captains from our club who would like to go. Previous NATS have been too far for us. I would imagine more people from California would attend too.

I have two words for you. Maker. Faire.

OK, just kidding. The California Maker Faire is a demonstration for recruiting purposes, not a proper venue for NATS. Our pit area is simply too small to handle the number of skippers and ships, and you'd have to cram all those battles into two days. It sure would be cool, though. Just imagine crushing those pitiful Allied scum to the cheers of a thousand crazy fans...

A NATS location closer to the west coast would be cool, though. I would try to attend if it was close enough.

I think the main obstacle would be finding a venue. That's kind of make or break for hosting a Nats.

What about Nevada or Arizona or Wyoming? Some where a little closer. If anybody has a big enough pond out there, that would be great.

Reno's easy for bay area people too, relatively speaking.

Not to be insensitive to the west coast's plight, but the last few Nats haven't exactly been a short drive from the east coast, either. :)

If I cannot walk out my own front door and see the battle pond with my own two eyes, it's too far away!

Of course if I host, its MWCI. And the last few years (Houston, MN, Houston, Denver, MN) are pretty central so those from the east and from the west have some travel. In '06 I did drive all the way to Cocoa FL and back. Solo. Which was fun, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do that again. Maybe a 2014 Nevada Nats? Hmmmmmm

Really it comes down to who volunteers to host it, you want it, you host it. Haven't heard anything from the west coast on having a NATS pond to host at so untill you guys get something worked out Reno is probably the best bet. There generally aren't to many places in any given year that offer to host NATS and especially if one of the place is somewhere we've never been it has a very good chance of getting selected (also helps to be not right next to where we had it recently and a good history as a battle pond.)

Travel aside I'd love to go to Reno for NATS! Heck I'd got to cali for NATS.

    Have boat, will fly....
