Hi. The name's Breve, and I've been wanting to get into this for a long time, at least since high school. I've loved battleships and the like since I was about 7. This wasn't a practical hobby while I was in the navy (go figure), but now that I am land bound, I think it's time to start. I even have a nice sized pond in my development, that is right across from my house, so I have a great place to practice.
I have never built R/C before, but I have built a number of ships. My collection is mostly 1/700 waterline models, so this will be a huge jump, and more costly too...
I've been doing some pricing, mostly on strikemodels.com. My first ship will either be a Northampton class CA, or a Deutschland class CA.

Welcome to the hobby, and the site.
The Deutschland class is probably a better choice for a first boat, as it is both bigger, and heavier.

Hey there! You'll want to get in touch with the IL guys, mostly in the Chicago area. I'll send you a message with some contact info. Welcome to the hobby! Both of the ships you listed are great first boats. Lutzow is a little heavier, but either make good cruisers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask around!

FACEBOOK me!! Dominic Kuczwara (NW Indiana---I work in Chicago)
I have a kit that I bought in 1997-8 (forgot which year), from Swampworks. I started it....basically took the hull out of the box and sanded it down a bit. That's it! It is complete with it's original box! I have two small kids now and will have no time to EVER finish this thing. It's for sale! Don't buy anthing until you have a chance to see what I have!
I can take photos and send them or we can talk via facebook....your choice.

    Dominic

    Hello Breve:
I'm one of those wacky Chicagoans the others spoke of. Technically, I guess I've been an Addisonian for a few years but it's close enough. Welcome to the hobby. Whereabouts are you located in IL? Ethan, Aaron and I are currently planning another build meeting for August or September in the Chicagoland area (typically at Ethan's in Glenview). If you're interested we'll keep you posted.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    John

Thanks for the replies. I'm currently in Morris, but will be moved into my new house in Minooka by the end of this month. The Chicago area is within an hour from me. As I have never built R/C anything, a build meeting will be rather helpful. Besides, if I am to take off with this, I should get to know some of the battlers in the area.

Indeed, it is a small world! I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield. Shoot, you could bring your ship to my pond and practice.

I drove past Morris on my way to and from Streator for work, so I have a rough idea where you guys are at. Looking forward to meeting up with you!
