If you can make it fly in scale, I'm cool with it.

I'm decent at driving my boat, but flying my RC Helo is uhhh, not pretty. Let's just say that I am talent deficient at that hobby.

As long as it fits the time period, proper scale, & appropriate weapons, same as the ships, why not? I'm sure there were plenty of helicopters that fit the criteria.

Seriously, though, I've been around a few times where somebody brought a helicopter to a ship fight. Once was pretty big, equipped for aerial photography; other times have been just little things to fly around. In every case, though, whenever the heli went up, everybody's attention got glued to it. Nobody paid any attention to the battle going on, on the water, least of all the captains who were supposed to be involved in it!

That's why I comment about being careful, what sort of whiz-bang stuff people might want to bring out, from helicopters to fixed-wing aircraft, to go-fast boats, etc. One helicopter in the air draws more attention than a dozen fully-armed warships, fighting on the water. The "cool factor" is just way too high for some things, that should really be left home on battle day.

We were trying to figure out how to do airpower in our group. What we can up with was Rigid Airships. Most of the major powers (US, Japan, Germany, etc) had some kind of Airship or Rigid Airship in service between 1900-1946. These can be built with plastic and mylar to keep the weight down, filled with helium and outfitted with a wireless camera to see what your bombing. The drawback to this is that they MUST be quite large (6' - 8' long x about 12" diameter) in order to get off the ground and carry a payload. The lift ratio for helium is not very good. ....but all of that aside you can build a fighting zepplin for about $50.

Maybe you can use a camera to record the battle, now thats an idea. A bird's eye view of the battle.
