hello, my name is Jeremy. I've been interested in tabletop naval war games for a while now, but there's not really a scene for it anywhere I've lived. I don't know how, but I never knew that this hobby existed. A friend of mine showed me some videos a few days ago and I find it fascinating. I notice there is a club on the outskirts of Houston and I'd like to make it out to one of the events sometime to see what it's all about. I've read a bit about the ships and it's a lot of info for someone new to digest. Not ready to dive in yet, obviously, but I am very interested to learn more about the hobby. Looking forward to meeting some people and seeing a battle.
Thanks, NickMyers. I already found their club sub-forum and their Facebook page. I see they have something planned next month. I'm going to see if I can get an invite to go and watch.
Hey Jeremy! We are getting ready for Nats right now.. in fact leaving in a day or two but will host a meeting soon. Be sure to like the facebook page so you get updates Texas Naval Brigade | Facebook I will send you a PM with my info so we can coordinate your attendance. If you like we can bring out a boat for you to try and see how you like it. I am also interested in your Naval table top games. Where do you play? See ya Johnny
Johnny, I was trying to be brief and I guess I really didn't say what I meant to say. I haven't been able to find any place locally that plays the tabletop games but I've been looking for a while. It is something I was looking to get into but haven't yet. I do have a copy of the game Wooden Ships Iron Men, but sadly have never found anyone to play with. It's really in depth and none of my friends have that kind of attention span. In fact, one of my friends that turned down the offer to play is the guy who pointed out this hobby to me. He said, "You're always talking about naval war games, check this out!" And so, here I am! I'll be watching this page as well as your FB page. I think the FB page has an event next month in Rosenberg. I'd like to go and check it out if possible. I don't think you guys need to lug a ship out there just for me, though. I hope I can make it down that way sometime. Jeremy
Ah, Avalon-Hill's WS&IM game. I love that game so much I own two copies. Of course, I haven't played it in (literally) decades, but it was one of my favorites. Another great one (more miniature based than boardgame) is Seekrieg. They have a great set of rules, and extensive stats on ships of the dreadnought / battleship era. I sometimes use it as a reference source, it was so well researched.
Yeah, WS&IM and Close Action are two of the more popular age of sail games. I'll check out the Seekreig site. Sounds interesting.
Are you kidding me!!! That's what we do!! If you make it out we will have some kind of ship for you to drive/try or perhaps battle. Just let me know for sure and I will put the word out. Nick is nearby in Louisiana but will be attending local battles and such when he can. We are working on a ship with him as time allows.
