You will quickly realize that all the details you want to put on will be destroyed very quickly unless they are bullet proof. Most people that start in this hobby build a scale model and then realize they are battling. The challenge is not the details but keeping the ship running and the guns firing. Others have a different superstructure with really nice details. I like to call it the "show deck" You are restricted by weight so that matters when you put details on. Also too many and it may tip over. I recommend start with the hull, subdeck and deck, mount rudders and motors and start from there. Think of the build as a lot of small builds and you will get there quicker. The tool thing you are just going to have to google it or pratice on scrap wood, ect. The Alabama is a great ship and will serve you well. It is a bit big for a first build so go slow and ask lots of questions [] Welcome aboard!
Sign up for a shop class in school, you'll learn a lot of stuff that'll be handy in life, not just in building a ship.
