Hello R/C Naval Combat, Bob Allen from ESBG suggested that I reach out to you regarding participation in "Palmyra's Pirate Weekend" located in Palmyra, NY this coming August 8th - 10th. Palmyra's Pirate Weekend is an annual event that draws 1,000's of attendees from around the area throughout it's 3 days of activities. This year, R/C - Model boats and ships are the main draw for Saturday and Sunday at the Port of Palmyra located on the Historic Erie Canal in upstate New York. The main times for the boat displays/shows will be 9am to 4pm Saturday and 9am to noon Sunday. We may have an opportunity to display a ship or two at Lorri's Secret Garden and Lock 29, our two "Pirate Headquarter" locations. We can work the details out after we confirm interest from your club members. We would like to have "static" and "in the water" displays of unique boats/ships (Ironclads, Period Sailboats, WWI and WWII, Old Freight/Packet Boats, etc.). I was hoping to have 6 or 10 static displays setup around the marina and another 10 - 12 ships (rotating times) in the water. And if there is anyway to add some Pirate Themed decorations to the ships - the better! There is no charge for this event and I will be happy to share the logistical (loading, unloading, tent/tarp setup, parking, etc.) if you will be participating. As I mentioned above, the ships will be the Main Draw to the marina, so we would like to have the best and most unique models and knowledgeable owners to talk about their ships and this great hobby. I hope all of this is making sense. If not, please let me know and I'll try to sort it out better. Here is a link to last year's festival: http://www.palmyrany.com/pirates/lois_mcclure_2007.htm "Pirates of the Erie Canal (2007) The Pirates of the Erie Canal invade the Port of Palmyra Marina and other venues throughout the Village of Palmyra, New York on August 10, 11, and 12, 2007, bearing a boatload of fun for all ages. The crown jewel of the first ever Palmyra Pirate Weekend is the visit of the Lois McClure, a replica 1862 canal schooner. In addition, a full weekend of adventure and action is planned, including: canal boat tours and rides, a free movie in the park, museum and walking tours, pirate tales, live music, food, children’s games, and much more. And don’t forget to bring home some swag from the Pirates Bazaar, a sidewalk sales extravaganza from Palmyra’s Main Street merchants." We are planning many of the same activities for 2008 except the Lois McClure won't be here. We want the Model Boats to be the main draw! We are also planning to host a Bed Race, Kazoo Band/Parade and many more activities. We hope that you will be a part of the festivities! Pirate attire is optional. . . If you can arrange for some "live fire" exercises, that'd be a huge draw to the pirate crowd. You would need to put extreme safety measures in place, but nothing draws attention like a little live firing. And if you could poke a few holes and sink a ship or two, all those pirate maniacs would be climbing over each other to get involved.
Again, I'm not organizing this event. (I'm in Washington state) We need someone from NY area to step up and take control of this gig.
You might try crzyhawk... I think he might be close enough. Or the CBG guys. I'll cross post to cbg and mabg Mike
