Hi Speed Boat, If you could tell us where you're located (so we know what clubs you might be joining or rulesets you'll be using), what you're interested in or questions you have, and if you've done any modeling before, that'd be a great start. Welcome to RCNC!
Seriously though, welcome aboard. All of the above advice is very good advice. Browse around, read, absorb and ask questions.
As Keri said, we love having more targets... I mean new battlers on the pond. The best way we can help you is if we know some basic things about you. A rough location can help us find what clubs are nearby and what rules they'll be using. If you have any previous modelling experience, we can get some idea how much technical help you'll need. It is also a good idea to be sure you know what you're getting into. Building a model battleship is very rewarding and fun, but takes time and money.
Typically there is no age requirement to attend. You have to be insured to participate to battle a warship. There is an active group of guys up in Ohio. Go down the forum list of topics till you hit Washington Treaty Combat. They just had an battle in Xenia, OH not long ago. Read read read... you can learn alot by looking at "sticky" threads that are listed first under a particular topic. Patience goes a long way when building and support from parents really goes along way if you are still school age. Best of luck!
Most clubs require that you be 18 to be there by yourself, or have your mom or dad with you at the battle watching you. It's a liability thing.
Hey speedboat, I battle with the Treaty guys here in Ohio, most of us are located around Dayton Ohio, ruffly an hour and half south of you, we have other battlers farther north, I know of one in Lima, to follow up on what Keri said, do you or your parent/guardian have any R/C experiance, or wood working/modeling etc? anything can be learned, if not those that are in the "know" would be like the rest of us...
Welcome Speedboat I hope that you have talked to you dad about this. This is a wonderful Father/Son hobby. Building a ship with my son has always been a fun time for me. I hope that you and you dad have a lot of fun with this hobby.
That is outstanding! RC plane expirience goes a long way towards building a ship. Many of the skills I learned over the past few decades of model aircraft construction helped a lot when building my first ship. Even so, I still learned more and better ship building techniques by watching and asking other ship builders in the hobby.
I will contact you directly and try to hook you up with some of the folks near you. Welcome to this site, and the hobby. Mikey
