Hey, I've been looking around at this and similar sites for a while now (couple of months) and I have been planning on building my first wooden-hulled naval ship for even longer (about two years, but a new baby kinda put it on hold).

I haven't a clue whether there are any other members or clubs near me (your member finder says no) and was thinking of finding people near me who have an interest in naval ships and "converting" them, heh.

Soooo, thats all I can think of to say, other than my real name is Dave.
I hope I can become a good member of your community :)

    Welcome to the hobby.

Good luck to you in finding folks to join you.
I suspect that it will not be too hard.

Sorry but I left Suffolk, and the UK a number of years ago, and it does not look like I will be comming back anytime soon.

Welcome to the hobby, and this site Dave.
I see that there is a new captain on this site from London as well.
We have a local guy here in the states that recently purchased a fiberglass hull from a company in England.
So perhaps you will not find it hard to locate boating stuff there.
Any particular ships you are interested in?
    Mikey

I was thinking of the HMS Hood, but deffinately a RN ship.

heheh, yeah, just saw his post when i came in to read this thread.

I was planning on building a wooden-hulled ship (Read through the Bearn's construction thread for tips, amazing read), a fibreglass hull would probably be too wxpensive to pass off to the missus, but if it is going to bo too difficult, I might just see where I can get a second-hand hull (abandoned projects are allways up on ebay, and my local model shop has a couple, too.).
