Well, to be blunt, I'm starting the design phase of my first ship. What else should I need, besides ready the blue prints and scale them? Any advice would be wonderful.

RE: Planing phase You should probably check with the vendors that supply this wonderful hobby.
Strikemodels, and Battler's Connection, would be a good start.
They have ship kits, plans, cannons, pumps, and lots of other goodies.

Then find the closest club to you, and find and read their rules, and ship list.
    Happy hunting.

RE: Planing phase Best most important first step is to decide to go AXIS. The second step is to find a club near you, and find out what rules you will be building to.

RE: Planing phase check out the clubs in your area.
see which format (And group of people) that you like the best.
There may even be a ship for sale in that club.
After that research is complete you will have a better idea of what ship you would like to have.

You can tell Tuggy had a bad experence as a Allied, but then what would you expect when your first build is a Vanguard, and on top of that, convince one of your best buddies to do the same. :)

Alas, young David wasn't around yet to battle my Lion and Invincible... The Lion was not a triumph of engineering*, but it was my first boat, 7 short years ago. While everything electronic on the ship failed in the first battle**, the pump switch failed in the ON position :) Later, I had the opportunity to retrieve Rick King's boat for him in 10' of water (my boat was broke, and he was 2 weeks out of heart surgery... it seemed the thing to do). I then had the opportunity to drive everyone's boat for a sortie that weekend, and it was a great experience. I very nearly made my next boat a SoDak after driving Don Coles' Alabama, it was awesome.

    * I wish Bob's HowTo DVD had been available, it would've saved me a lot of rookie mistakes!

Well, Herr Tuggy, I haven't two boats to rub to gether, (I'm still planing the first) but, I've done quite a lot of reasearch on a wide variety of ships and ship building techniqes. For now though, I think I'll go Axis for my first build. Theres a few members in neiboring cities, so I'll try to speak with them before laying down my first ship. Thank you.
    Regards,
    Graf Arnulf.

@Arnulf - once you know what club you'll be battling with, post it and you will be able to get advice from people who battle in that format. Not a substitute for visiting nearby battlers, but it's fun to talk while we're at work via the forums :)

Not to pimp bob's DVD too much, but if you do fast gun, it is really helpful and a steal at the price. Also, look thru the 'Builds' section and see what some other guys have done, there are many true artists here :)
