If i Decide To build the Uss West Virginia Should i build it like Before Pearl Harbor Attack http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/48e.htm or after http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/48c.htm
I've always liked the look of cage masts... but then again, I never ever EVER felt like trying to build one. -Greg
I'm on the fence...I really like both looks but if I had to choose I would go with the rebuild and the cool camo
mmm... never been a super fan of cage masts, but then my favorite ships predate them That said, when I see a combat model with cage masts, I'm all "Oh, dude... sweet!"
I like Cage masts personally as well, although they're no Pagoda Masts. Then again, I have no idea if there was time when the WeVi was bulged and still retained her Cage masts.
I remember when I built my COLORADO, I built it with the cage mast. It was fun building it but it didn't last too long. From BBs hitting it and it laying down to work on the guns it took a real beating. I loved the look it had but it was just too much of a headache. It did survive the drop of the ship to the floor on that famous day when it got dropped 3 times (wish I could say the same for the hull). It's more of a personal choice. A good cage mast will always win over a crowd. Danny
The post- version looks more like an american Battleship(as opposed to a dreadnought) and the pre- version looks like a dreadnought. Really, i like the post- version, but it really boils down to the cage masts..... do you like them or not?
I kinda am on the fence to me the cage masts look like you are purely fighting ships (because you have two really tall lookout post scouting ships) but they look old fashoned and brittle. The post refit looks like you are fighting planes and islands so every thing is really close if it were up to me I would have rebuilt it with tri-pod masts.[]
Ya know, cage masts could be made practically indestructible if you make it out of EZ-Line. It's a flexible line that will stretch up to 700% of its length without breaking. The idea behind it is that big hands accidentally snag thread and break delicate structures they're attached to. Originally designed for telephone and telegraph lines for model train layouts, it works perfectly for ship rigging. Someone was showing it off at the last WWCC battle, and it's incredible. All you do is build a solid, say 1/8" stainless steel, rod for the primary structure, and then wrap a whole bunch of EZ Line around to make the cages themselves. bbs will pass right through without stopping.
