I have a question for the Canadian battlers among us. A fellow who lives up there, who has joined the Cheapest Point of Entry class has asked me if he can use 6mm ply vice 1/4", as his local stores do not sell in Imperial measures. I would expect that 6mm is fine (since it's thinner than 1/4"), but I could also swear that I've heard/read that it is acceptable to use 7mm ply vice 1/4". I told NativeCaptain that I would have no problem with 7mm, but that I was not in one of his local clubs. What do you Canadian gentlemen say to the conundrum?

Hey Tugs, just read the other thread posts and if anyone bitches about 7 mm ply (and I don't think anyone would) their shorts are too tight!!! For my US pals, 1 mm is less thatn 1/25 of an inch!
For you CDN Capts, check Micheals craft store ( if you send your wife in, no one will know) they have 1/4 inch ply there ( at least in Halifax they do).

i dont think any body in the ontario attackforce would care.. the more boats the merrier. i find it hard to believe he cant find 1/4" ply though. all our hardware stores sell primarily in imperial units. the home despot, rona, and lowes i have near my house carry 1/4" ply even if it is a lower grade.

Now that is very odd you could by full sheets and cut them up or buy the 7mm its pretty close and as long as a standard 150psi BB can penatrate it you should be fine.

Uh no, you dont want to be using 1/4" or 6/7mm plywood for your skin so you don't need to penetrate it.

It's the new drop test... your 1/2" thick sheet titanium hull skin must penetrate 0 out of 5 times to pass ;)

No issue here getting the thickness needed and I would not have an issue if it's a little thicker .

Thanks, guys. I was pretty sure it was okay, it's not like 7mm is a LOT thicker than 1/4".

Yeah, it is just over 25/1000 of an inch. Can see anyone complaining about that.
