Battlersconnection.com has 144 scale "fast gun" ships and parts but the basic ships are usable for Big Gun. Also you can buy motors, rudders and other misc things. If nothing more, it will give you an idea of some prices.

Thanks rarena you have been quite helpful. I see that many parts are designed around the hobbyist to design his ship to the specs and looks of a famous battleship such as the USS Mississippi. Which ship would you recemend for a first timer?

Edit: I do not see hulls for sale on their site all i can find is decks? Also I think i just sounded like a retard. Are the mississippi, alaska, arizona such like that also a class for battleships in design and such?

Be aware that there are several different "flavors" of combat. What works well in one doesn't always work so well in another. Not every area has everything, & it's a pretty good idea to go with whatever there's somebody else doing close to you.

Well I am really looking to build a ship with a limited investment first to see if I really get into this hobby.

The decks you saw were the hulls. About $130-$150 ( without going there) and yes the ships were class of ships. The mississippi was a class were there were two, NC was a class of 5, Bismarck was a class of two, ect. I can't recommend a starter ship for you in big gun, I don't battle big gun, only "fast gun" and it wouldn't be fair to steer you wrong. If you would like to see some more info on our clubs, check out my website. there are photos, links to companies, and an idea of what I am up to. I have a carrier also and have thought about the plane thing. In 144 scale I would just be happy with a take-off or landing. the micro flyers are 9 inches across and my flight deck is 9 inches so maybe someday soon, it could happen. I also thought about launching small co2 powered gliders off the deck by way of a conveyor belt. Too much time on my hands I guess.

pick whichever one enables you to battle with locals. If there is no one anywhere near you, pick what you most want to do, although it would be worth your while to consider the choice carefully.

What works in one format often puts you at a disadvantage in another. This means that money, time, etc. invested in one format doesn't necessarily carry over 100% if you decide to switch later. Plus, if you make an investment in personal relationships, learning the rules, techniques, etc. of a format, you'll probably want to stick with it. Only if you have lots of time & money on your hands, would it probably make sense to switch or expand your efforts into more than 1 combat format. Even then, it only makes sense to get involved in more than 1 format if multiple groups are active (i.e. holding frequent battles) in your area.

I'd do some research, & find out who's doing what nearby. It's not just convenience of battles close to home, but access to other captains that you can learn from that's important. If there's nobody close by in ANY format, then it's your choice - whatever looks the most interesting to you. To have battles, you'll need others - both allies & enemies! Recruiting & organizing are a lot of work, way beyond just building your own ship(s).

There are other sources for hulls too. Like ralph coles and steve hill, along with bob pottle, all of whom make hulls. They are all on this forum too, and you can contact them.
