Does anybody else know if the rules SPECIFICALLY state that a cannon has to be fired by a radio transmission? I haven't found anything that would state that it has to.

    Thanks,

But does that mean that it has to be fired with a radio?

The rules package should cover bases with a list of '..defined as...' but it lacks that, so we have to work on context a bit
They use the wording "Transmitter control", which is also utilized elsewhere in the context of a remote radio control, so basing off that, im going to say yes, it can only be via the TX.
    now....
nothing that i recall seeing though that would prevent you from pulling the stick and having a system on board engage and chooses the moment in the next say 5sec to fire one shot. You would need to dodge the automatic ranging and automatic tracking clauses though. The ranging one would probably be the difficult one...

You are always better off spending your time making sure all the basics on your ship are always working. You want your drive, rudder, guns, pump, damage control to be top notch and rarely fail. When that happens feel free to spend time inventing new stuff.
No sense having a ship with new inventions when nothing on your ship works in battle.
Also always finish project 1 before starting project 2. Always have at least one ship that can battle. If you are always completely taking it apart to try and put it together before the next battle you will always find yourself rushing the refit so you can battle. Rushed refits never end and fail at the battle.

No worries, Bob. I have a cruiser that is battle ready and reliable. Planning to give it a refit this winter and fix some rookie mistakes and improve some things, but she ran a whole day last battle with no problems. (can't say as much for some other people there :( )

For test purposes a single shot cannon shall be allowed a 20% variance in the

ratio of transmitter control movements to BB’s fired. Example: for 30 transmitter control

movements the cannon may fire anywhere from 24 to 36 BB’s and still be acceptable.
