All I am hoping to implement a ranking system for the 2009 season. I am leaning toward rank being obtained through things accomplished while not on the water. Like attendance, sportsmanship, and that sort of thing. More on this later. Mikey
Another thing that I have been thinking about is having some sort of bonus for sinking the opposing team's flagship. We could even go so far as to have a bonus system that relates to the rank of any skipper sunk in combat. In this case, sinking a fleet flagship, or the commander of say the battlecruiser wing of the opposing fleet would be worth more points than the other ships on the opposing team. Your thoughts please. Mikey
The BBS had a rule where the rookies (anything less than a full year of combat experience) were only worth half sink points. The results were very interesting, as although the rookies would get sunk on occasion, it was the veterans that got most of the attention. So I am wondering how it would effect the game if we had certain bonuses for sinking the fleet's flagship, which would most likely be the senior officer afloat, or the wing commanders, which would also be fairly high in rank. Another possability would be to simply have an added bonus for years of experience for anyone that gets sunk. Just my thoughts. Mikey
I like the idea of rookies only being worth half sink points. I like the idea of making veteran captains (the fleet and wing commanders) worth more points to sink as well.
What do you all think about this for starters. Rank is achieved by accumulating points. Points are accumulated by supporting the club. Individuals can obtain one point for the following. Attending a Treaty event. ( You do not have to participate in the combat). Hosting a Treaty event. Directing a Treaty event. Providing CO2 at a Treaty event. Provide/maintain a loaner boat at a Treaty event. Here is a list of ranks, and the points required to achieve them. Ensign.........................1 point. Lt. JG.........................5 points. Lt............................10 points. Lt. Cd........................15 points. Cd............................20 points. Capt..........................25 points. Commodore.....................30 points. Rear Adm......................40 points. Vice Adm......................50 points. Fleet Adm.....................60 points. Perhaps we should limit the number of points one can get per event. Perhaps we shouldn't limit it. We can start fresh at the first event in 2009. So we all start at the bottom, even if you have attended/battled to Treaty in the past. This may not be perfect, but it is simple. Your thoughts on this please. Mikey
The WWCC has a rank system based on three different types of points: combat points, maneuver points, and service points. If I were given the opportunity to redesign the WWCC system, I think it adopt just the combat and service points, since those two categories will allow you to reward the two important activities in a combat club. Earn combat points for battling: a small sum for participating in a battle, give the winning team a victory bonus, also provide bonuses for extraordinary accomplishments in battle like sinking the opposing flagship. Earn service points for helping the club: recruiting, serving as a club officer, hosting a battle, helping the host set up equipment, provide CO2, loaning out a ship, etc. Maneuver points are for gunnery and maneuvering events, which not all clubs have and IMHO are boring and have no meaning. The WWCC does not have enough G&M events to make maneuver points available, so that is all that is holding most people back. I have enough combat and service points to be a Vice Admiral, but I'm still a Captain because I missed one maneuver point last year. Consider how many events you will hold every year and how much opportunity members will have to earn points. You need to meet both combat and service requirements before you can advance in rank. The first ranks should be relatively easy (.5-1 year per rank), but the last ones should really be special (1-3 years per rank). The WWCC only got it's second Fleet Admiral last year, and it's the oldest big gun club. The WWCC imitates the USN commissioned officers, except for 1 star and 2 star admirals are Commodores and Rear Admirals, respectively.

I have added a few new ways of accumulating points, and also spread out the points required to achieve the higher ranks. How does it look? Mikey
Up to captain I agree. I think we should set aside the flag ranks for the moment until we have more experience with how many points your average captain accrues in a year. Then, once we have a good idea, I think we can determine how fast we want people to make it to the various flag ranks. I would think we'd want that progression to be pretty slow.
Take a look at the list. I have up-dated it. Let me know if it looks ok, and we will run with it. Of course, we can add to it later if we think of anything else. Mikey
Yes this is in place now. Points awarded as of Jan. 1 2009 will count. So there are quite a few ensigns, and perhaps a couple getting close to Lt. JG. Mikey
