I got a plesant supprise in the mail today, one of Greg Mcfadden's Littorioo kits. I opened it up, and it looked great . I dry fitted most of it together, and it stays connected, very tight tolerances. Hope to dy fit the rest of the kit tomorrow. I'll post some pictures after I put it all together, and figue out how to get the links from google+. Since this is my first build, I'm probably going to end up asking a lot of questions:blush:, speaking of which, I've got a few right now. First, I hear a lot of talk about CA glue, Is that shortened for a brand name, or is it just normal CA glue? Secondly, would it work if I used foam instead of balsa to put the fiberglass for the impenetrable aeas on? It seems like it would be easier to cut it with a hot wire rather than sheeting the bottom with balsa. Thirdly, what motors should I use? I was thinking brushless with direct drive propelling the center two shafts, but what Kv? It would be for treaty, so 31 second speed, unless conways says differently. also, to finish up the inside and questions for today, what ESC and battery should I use? I get the Ideas behind it all, but the numbers are where the electronics lose me, any help would be appreciated, and I'll keep updating as the build goes.
I just got mine as well and they are amazing. Ok I can only really answer your first question because I do not feel I have the experience to answer the latter ones just yet. When they say CA glue CA is exactly what they mean. It could be short for something but who knows. If you go down to your local hobby store and ask for it they will know exactly what you want. but then you will have to choose between the different types of it which is were the more experienced fellas on here chime in with their suggestions...
CA = Cyanoacrylate . Make sure to fit everything before using CA. particularly the side stiffeners that run the length of the hull (almost the length) at the bottom of the penetrable area. do NOT trust the CA to do anything more than hold it pending epoxy, and even then, that is a bit dubious if you flex the ship
I have not had good luck with long term life of gorilla glue nor do I trust it to be watertight. What I did was as follows: Medium Ca and thin CA were used to tack the whole thing together. then West systems epoxy bonds and waterproofs. Just be aware that you either need an exceptionally thick first coat or two to three thin coats of west systems to get a good watertight boundary around the wood, take your pick. it will wick into the joints and bond them at the same time.
