Ok I am needing a bit of help,I was searching the HMS Tiger comissioned in 1914,is there anyone in this forum who can give a hint on how easy its to build one?
The battlecruiser HMS Tiger? I'd think on the 1 to 10 scale of model warships, she's probably a 5. Not too hard, but some woodworking skills necessary to scratchbuild it, reasonable room inside for the internals. Not sure how difficult it'd be to convert a Battler's Connection fiberglass HMS Lion hull to HMS Tiger. I'm sure someone's thought about it or done it atsome point, though.
Dreadnought Hulls in Australia also offers a Tiger hull: http://www.dreadnoughthulls.com/ (note the photo link on that site is incorrect)
Sorry about the mix up on the Dreadnought Hulls website there gents and thanks for the heads up on it, I'm Michael Raue and I do the Dreadnought hulls stuff (except for the website) I'm new to this site and having a great time reading all the articles and stuff. I've contacted the person maintaining my website (I'm still on my Learners permit for website stuff) untill I can do it myself and I've asked him to put Terror into the Erebus/Terror spot and fix up a few other little mistakes with the Battle class and Narvik class destroyers and find the Abercrombie photo's too. Any hulls I've made in the last year since I've had a digital camera I've taken photo's of, to put up on the website. The Queen Mary Battlecruiser hull is basically exactly the same as HMS Tiger but Tiger is 12mm longer, Queen Mary is also 23mm longer than Lion and Princess Royal but all 3 are less than the +/- 2% for length if used for the other ship as per the rules here and possibly there in the USA too. That 2% allows an error of 30mm for Tiger but the Queen mary hull is only 12mm shorter so less than 1% out, and 29mm for Lion and Princess Royal and the Queen Mary is only 23mm too long. The hull I have is for the Queen Mary with plans, any hulls ordered without plans for large ships saves $15 as I dont have to pay for copying them and pass that on. Cheers all
Strangely enough I had a thought over the weekend re this hull. In the cut and shut process there is an option for the rejoining skipper. If the hull is 1/2in too short to be the Tiger in the rejoining process you can lengthen it by leaving a 1/2in gap as you reglass the hull thus making it longer. The polycarbonate rails I use for the rejoining process can be set up to do this and "Viola" you've got the right hull length. You could also take 1/2 in out of each half at the join site to shorten the hull for the Princess Royal And Queen Mary during the rejoining process with no loss of strength in the finished product. Cheers
