Hi I figure I better start a Thread for the Rhode lsland Nats. This will be used for discussion leading up to the day we actually leave for Nats on Rhode Island. So first of all. Should I get a passport as early as possible?
If you are planning to go to the US Curt then yes. Heidi went to florida for work and US customs prefers Canadians to have a passport. The last thing you would want is to get to the border and be turned back because you do not have one.
I spoke to Russell last night. He is very keen on travelling to Rhode Island with us. He has a minivan and can load up a lot of stuff. I discussed Roma going to Nats. But I THINK I will suggest using Tennessee for Nats and let him keep Roma as is. Easier to transport a bunch of smaller ships instead of a couple of larger ships. Not sure yet. I may suggest he use GRAF SPEE instead for NATS. He's very good with Cruisers and his only combat ship when he was active was a cruiser the USS HOUSTON. I think that would work better for him in terms of getting back into it and transport will be easier.
Johnston, Rhode Island in Friendship park. I think that's name of the park. Friendship or freedom or something. Date is not set yet, we still have to do our voting on it and the ballots have not gone out yet. The proposed dates are the last two weeks in july. I will post info as it becomes available. We are looking forward to seeing all of you and are hoping for a great turnout and an awesome event!
Well.... not to be a bearer of bad news.... I am in school now and my summer break is the first of August to the 16 or 17th of the same month. I was thinking this would be a great time to hold CANNATS XI, especially if the city is as interested as I think they are in hosting and sponsering the event.... there is a keen undertone. Putting us in the event calender and everything..... hmmmmmmmm not sure what to say there Curt. School is my priority and where I am in the program they keep an eye on your attendance.... so I can't just skip out....
Your thread title is good Curt.... There is a musical Family Guy episode called "Road to Rhode Island" LOL
The month of August would be a much better time for CANNATS IX. Maybe we could make a 4 day event even with a build and tweek day before the 3 days of battling.
That would be better.... we are going to see if there will be adjusted rates for people to stay in hotels... the cheapest rates right now is 49.99 a night, only ten minutes from the battleground. Let's wait until I have all the details.... stay tuned....
We usually get a group rate and all the boat people take over a whole floor of the hotel. it makes for a great week where everybody goes door to door bothering the neighbors.
I would agree with you on this one Craig. Sometime between the first and the 17th would be better than holding it in Sept.
Ok you guys up there would have a better sense of the best time to hold it with the city's support. I would be interested in going. Maybe I can coincide that with Nats if the Nats date is near that time too. Who knows. But for now I am for it.
I had a great time at 2003 NATS in R.I. and plan to attend in 2009. The usual NATS dates are for a week in mid-July. The site isn't as good as the ones we use in terms of water clarity and depth. The water is murky with maybe 3'-4' visibility (at least it was in 2003) and the bottom drops off quickly from the edges of the small island where the competitors stand. If my memory is correct you're swimming before you're 25' from shore so finding a model that sinks more than 50' out could be difficult. Fortunately Don Fisher of the IRCWCC is a diver. The shore facilities, catered food, and event organization were excellent, and the competitors were very friendly. Remember that all participants must have NAMBA insurance and be members of the IRCWCC. I plan to take the Krasni Krim, armed with 4 x 1/2 unit spurt cannons in the bow casemates for use as a base defence ship in Campaign Lite, which takes up an entire day of the event. I'm not sure what to use for the regular battles but it will be Class 4 or less, most likely HMS Indefatigable and the KK with a one unit cannon aft and 2 of the spurt guns disconnected. Ralph plans to attend and will use either HMS Black Prince or something he builds this winter. It'll be good to have a few Canadians at NATS. I think there were about 24 competitors in 2003 with only 1 Canuck. Bob
Probably because I am working and inbetween or during a call I try to post.Sometimes there is a lag and it shows it did not post so I resubmit again to ensure it goes through. Sorry. Not my computer.
