how many rounds to a barrel are there on an average 1/144 scale big gun torret? Please answer, and thanks for the help
As many as you can get. Seriously, like with so many things, "It Depends". Mostly, it depends on how wide of a magazine your ship can fit. 3" magazines were once all you ever saw. 4" magazines are used a lot in larger ships. Some of the larger, later-vintage battleships can even take 5" (or, in the case of #3 turret in a South Dakota or Iowa) there's room for a 6" magazine. The number of rounds that can fit in a given magazine are a function of the round size, number of barrels, & a variety of other minor factors such as how many screw heads are in the way, to mount whatever to the magazine top. I have 2-1/2", 3", 4", & 5" in a variety of calibers & I have no earthly idea the capacity of any of them. Each is the largest that it can be, to fit where it needs to go. It doesn't matter how many rounds each can load, & I don't care. I just load them until they're almost full (don't want the rounds jammed in there or they might not feed). JM
I have some BDE 3.5" triples, and those carry approximately 45-55 rounds per barrel. About the same for a 4" quad. However, there's a few Iowas, South Dakotas, and other big American nasties, that carry over 1,000 rounds of ammo into a fight. Those ships only have to reload once for an entire day's worth of battling. Remember, it's not just how wide of a magazine you fit. Height counts, too. You can double or even triple your magazine capacity just by adding height to your magazine. One of those heavily-ammo'd Iowas I was talking about earlier is using 3.5" magazines that are probably 5 layers deep. He just had to build a low-profile body around the bottom and *voila* height for extra magazines.
thanks, finaly someone who has finaly answered this question. What is the average thickness of turret cover thing a ma bobs?
They can be any thickness you want. The average is about 1/8 to 3/16 thick. Remember, you are trying to hide the guns without it sitting way up. I use rubber which lets me get it really thin but remain bb proof. It all depends on what material you use and how high your guns are mounted.
