I thought I'd do something a little different for my next project, the Russian armoured cruiser Rurik launched in 1906.

I am currently fitting out stringers to the hull. All parts are dry fit. From the top, the first is for the casemate deck, the second is for a armour belt or knuckle in the hull, and the third not yet fitted is for the top of the impenetrable area of the hull.

The first rib will be cut slightly at the bottom once everything is glued together.

Sub deck dry fitted. Some small fitting issues to be resolved before gluing can commence.

Three 6AH LiPO batteries ordered from HK today (one per motor) for this ship.

Through the wonders of FedEx, I received some goodies from Hobby King and BC.

Three 6000mAH LiPO batteries one for each drive motor and one for the pump. A set of navigation lights, some wire, some connectors and a pair of shafts.

Yes. I have some LEDs for the spot lights I want to try and install as well.

I was able to glue everything together last night, hoping to get it sanded down tonight so I can pay an updated picture before I plank the bottom.

Got home tonight and took all the weights and clamps off the glued together hull. Very pleased with how it turned out. Hull is nice and straight, and the shafts line up near perfectly.

I have one side sanded about 75%, will probably post an updated pic tomorrow if I can finish sanding the rest. I'm also hoping to be able to cut out the deck and glue it to the sub deck tomorrow so I can start on the hard areas afterwards.

So now that I'm back and mostly recovered from Nats, I'm going to get back to working on finishing this cruiser. I picked up one of BC's single input/dual output gearboxes, and an just wondering how other people have attached them to their ships?

I've seen a bunch of different methods. The one I think works best is making (or using a premade) motor mount that beds the motor can down and is locked in by two zip ties. The gearbox just bolts to the face of the motor & hangs off the end of the mount.
Example of motor mount from BC: motors

I guess that might work if I used brushed. I think I might just build a bracket of some sort into the hull.

Funny you should ask, but not yet. Almost have the hard areas on the hull filled in. Had to stop Saturday night because I was having an allergic reaction to the balsa dust. I have about a third left to do, then I can sand it down and glass the hull.
