Today I started work construction on HMS St. Andrew, I decieded to utilize a Vanguard hull which was the about the right beam and length.
I managed to cut out the subdeck and epoxy it in place, photo did not come out, but I have begun marking off the windows for cutting the ribs, and working on building the main gun turret covers.
its 1/144 scale hypo, the N-3 design was to have 9x18"/45 guns, "gobs" of armor, and 23-24 knot speed, it was the Dreadnought counterpart to the four G-3 Battlecruisers. I'll dig up the conways info. I know it was around 815 feet long and 106' in beam. Based on the tonnage it would be class 7 like the vanguard but, minimum warship speed in "treaty" speeds.
my plan is to have twin sidemounts in "A", a single bow chaser in "B" twin sidemounts in "Q"? opposite of "A", and a single stern gun mounted in one of the secondaries. Gerry is wanting to run my HMS Rodney this year, and I had thought about building the Nelson to run together, but the N-3 hypos always have interested me. I have no doubts the Vanguards the better model to build, but sometimes its not about whats better, but what you want more.
The N3 battleships. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N3-class_battleship They were never ordered due to the Washington Naval Treaty. When do you think you'll finish her? I recognize the waterline marker. Beaver
Yes the waterline marker was used with great success, The whole build will probably take me around three weeks to finish. It is the only 1/144 scale ship I am working on, the 1/96 scale Jean Bart, and Prince of Wales are eating up most of my building time.
I made one of those markers. Definitely a great piece to have in the shop. Thanks again, Mark! THREE WEEKS, man you guys work fast over there. Must be something in the air. Beaver
Actually, I think it must be something he eats. In the last two years he's turned out more ships than the rest of the local builders combined, and we haven't exactly been sitting on our hands.
Today I marked the slots for the stuffing tubes, made the stuffing tubes, finished epoxying the subdeck in, cut out the deck and 01 level. Cut out the main barbettes, and began work on the rudder, and rudder stock. I have been looking for that one ship I love more than the rest and haven't found it yet. The Michigan right now has been my favorite to run, so far...
Thats mine, my father wants to run it this year, so instead of building another one for me, I choose the N3. In the background you can see the "Horrible" Hindenburg (H-39).
Looking good there Matt. I will break out the old camera, and post a photo of another of her running mates. As to Matt's work schedule.. I have been speaking with him about that. And I have suggested that what he really needs is a some R+R. Mikey
Did the N3 get finished? Great idea to use one of my Vanguard hulls though the stringers for the armour belts are in somewhat different positions..
