Hi guys, I have a question wrt DKM Scharnhorst. How good of a ship is he in Treaty? I would think that with the speed, the turning ability and the volume he would be pretty good, but I ask for some experienced Treaty guy input. Thanks,
    J

We haven't had anyone run a Scharnhorst in Treaty so far.
But it is one of the fastest capital-ships there is, and will be a great turning ship due to the triple shafts, and twin rudders. It is also rated as a battleship, so you get the extra pumping capacity, over the battlecruisers.
So from a numbers standpoint, it is one of the bests Treaty ships that one can build.
    On another note.
If one were to build the Gneisenau as she would have been after the conversion to the 15" twin turrets (like Bismarck), then it is long enough to get twin firing side-mounts (in a single turret), as it would have been over 800 feet long.
In either case, you almost can't go wrong with these ships.
They have everything going for them.

    Jay,
The Scharnhorst Class should be great in Treaty combat. I believe they're the fastest Axis battleships/battlecruisers and the only ships able to keep up with the weaker armed and slower turning Courageous, Furious and Renown Class battlecruisers. I was hoping no one local would build a Treaty Scharnhorst - it'd be the greatest threat to the Renown Class BCs Rob Clarke and I are building!

It is one of the fastest axis BB/BC's for sure.
You could go with a 1 unit 1.25gpm pump, or because it's class 5 you could use a 1 unit and a 1/2 unit pump(1.25gpm goes down to 1.0gph if carrying two pumps and 1/2 unit is .75gpm giving a total of 1.75gpm)

If I were to build one I think I would take a 1 unit pump(1.25gpm) which would leave 4.5 units.I would then split one of the 1 unit cannons, which would give 3, 1.5 unit cannons. 2 bow sidemounts to each side and a stern haymaker rotating/pivoting to either side of the stern.

I agree with the guys above...as an Allied captain, I'm a little bit afraid the "Axis to the end" guys will see how good the Scharnhorst looks on paper. Until someone actually builds one to prove otherwise, I will think the Scharny is one of the best ships you can build.

I agree with HMCS, if I were building one, I'd give some serious thought to just putting in 3 75 round guns.

I am pleased that everyone seems to be on the same page as I am. I did actually think of the 3 1 1/2 unit cannons but I did not think of a rotate. Thanks for that and it should be fun.

I have to agree with Mike on this one.
We allies were a little hesitant to even bring up the Scharnhort class ships, as we didn't want to bring attention to just how good we think they will be.
    Nuff said.

Something else you could do with them if you really want to make people cry is run with 3 75 round guns, and rotate both of the forward guns (anton and bruno) The ship is long enough to have two guns pointed in the same quadrant if you want.

So what you do, is set it up so both guns are slaved together, and that you can fire them separately. Say forward stick fires the Anton gun, and right fires the Bruno gun. Diagonal, forward/right fires both. That gives you the freedom of being able to ALWAYS have guns on the side you want them, and the potential for really pounding someone with both guns if you get them into a bad position.

You aren't allowed to read this thread Bob. You are the captain nobody wants to see in a Scharnhorst.

*waves fingers* "this is not the ship you're looking for"
