Hey all, ya'll may have have noticed my (extended) absence from the boards. I've been busy with robots and such. Anyhow I thought I'd share a source for all kinds of gears, sprockets and things with servo splines. servocity.com They also have some nice servo driven pan/tilt mounts with 180-360 degrees of rotation. They won't work for guns directly but the mechanical layouts provide a good starting point for making your own. This one was the inspiration for many of my robot pan/tilt mounts: http://servocity.com/html/spg425_pan.html By using an external pot you can get more rotation (multi-turn?) and better repeatability. Just mod the servo for continuous rotation and wire up the external pot in place of the servo's pot. 32 and 48 pitch gears: http://servocity.com/html/servo_mount_gears.html Shaft couplers: http://servocity.com/html/servo_shafts___couplers.html Sprockets: http://servocity.com/html/servo_sprockets___chain.html -iamscottym
hehe yeah, I got quite a scare when I opened up my box of servos and stuff to see tootsie rolls. It only took me two seconds to dig under the candies and find the rest of my order, but that was a very scary two seconds.
what do you use the POT for on the servo rotator? If the gear is turned by the servo gear then the POT is sending a signal to something?
I presume you are talking about the Servo City Geared Servo system with the external pot as the shaft for the output gear like this oneVisit this site? You wire that pot in place of the servo's internal pot. It provides position sensing. Which, by the way, you can replace with a multi-turn pot if you want a multi-turn servo. Cheers,
