Is there a decent free sketchup available out there? Or even a cheaper cost than the 456.00 pro version.

I have AutoCAD 2012, but the learning curve is difficult. Maybe with sketchup I can shorten the learning curve a little.

The free version is at http://www.sketchup.com/download. Most of the things that aren't in the free version, you can get from plug-ins.

I wonder what plugin he has that will allow him to insert a reference drawing? I don't think the free version of Sketchup allows to add images...

It does, click import and change the file type to "all supported file types", and click on the file you want to import. Once it's imported, but it wherever you want. After you click where you want it, it changes to scale mode, so that you can scale the image.

No plugin for that, Spudsy :) When I'm doing ribs, I draw a vertical wall to paste the image to, then hit 'File', and 'Import'.

I don't understand where the incompatibility is coming from. What format are you using? I've imported jpg and tiff files with no problems and no special plugins.
