http://sketchup.google.com/ Has anyone else seen this? I just found out about it today, and I'm wondering if it can be used for our ships. It looks kinda interesting. Not exactly a full-power CAD program, but it's free.
I've used it to design buildings before. It can be used for ships.... but the 3 dimensions can get tricky at times depending on your angle.
I use it quite alot in my Landscape Architecture studio classes. I'm fairly certain it only uses imperial system, but then again I've never really looked for it. I'll take a look tonight to make sure. On the other, hand if you know what your doing you can make some really interesting models to send to a CNC machine. I'll get some images of the hulls I've made in sketchup.
You are not linking to an image. You are linking to an entire webpage. the source for the picture is listed as : http://www2.snapfish.com/slideshow/AlbumID=276389150/PictureID=6818569932/a=109504667_109504667/t_=109504667 for example. you need to point to a real file from a source that allows linking... to do this, I had to put http://render-2.snapfish.com/render...50,480,266 in the ULR field... I do not know how long this will work (or even if it will work for others) as it was found by "right click on image, click properties" "copy address"
Sweet It works. Thanks guys. So anyway this is a merchant ship I did up to show my fiance sorta what I think her boat may look like. I didn't want to get into to much detail with it as it was just a quick dipiction.
This is of the USS Mississippi and I was going to try to make my own fiberglass hull but my friend who might have had access to a CNC to make a mold bailed on me. I never could get a good Idea of what the sorcouf looked like so I just kinda fuged a few things from the pics I could find. Also just remembered that the pro version allows you to export to Autocad and several other different programs.
