Hello all, I received my new secret project from BC yesterday & in trying to fit the subdeck I have run into trouble. The subdeck is at least 1 inch too wide for nearly the entire hull. I am wary of trying to pull the hull apart to try to get it to fit... any suggestions?

    Thank you all,
    Harry

First off measure the width of the subdeck and the width of the hull, compare these to what the scale width should be keeping in mind the subdeck should be roughly 1/4" narrower than the actual width of the ship to account for the thickness of the fiberglass hull. Adjust as required. Often fiberglass hulls need to be "pulled apart" to the correct width and have some internal supports to keep them there.

I usually have to fit the edges to the fiberglass hull so it fits well. Make sure you measure width and allow a bit under to make up for the hull and balsa. The final number with everything in place will be your beam. I usually go 1/8th under spec. You may have to pull the hull apart a bit. 1 inch is not a big deal wilth fiberglass.

Thanks, this is the first time I've dealt with the subdeck being so far off from the hull contours. Looks like I'll trim some fiberglass & some wood to get a close fit. I now understand the horrors of casemates!
