Some of us have been discussing hull thickness for submarines. The general feeling so far is that as subs will need to be able to operate as deep as 2 feet, they should get 1/16" balsa for the hull in order to resist the pressure.

Why 2 feet, you ask? They only have to dive till the top is below water! Well, when the sail is just below the surface, the keel of Surcouf is going to be like unto 7-10" down. If you actually dive the ship deep enough to swim below a battleship, you're talking a depth of close to 2 feet. And that's ignoring the very real possibility of a depth excursion (which in our 1/96 reality will probably result in exceeeding test depth and possibly crush depth).

So, what I am asking is, does anyone have any logical objections to submarines getting 1/16" thick hulls?

We've had 12 views, with no dissents, I'll give it a day or two more and add the rule change if it's still unchallenged :)
