My names Kilian. Im originally from Germany but i live in the USA now in virginia. Im in the military (navy) and since i was about 8 iv been doing revell models of ships, tanks, and planes up to this very day and im classic, i played Navyfield way back in the day and now i play World of Warships. Iv always wanted to get into actually building a model that shoots and sink other ships! And here i am! Im excited to start building. Iv done some research onto hulls and superstructures and parts n such but i got a long road ahead! So yeah, any more questions and helpful info/basic tips/ knowledge for me would be cool! Again im glad i found this page and this type of gaming community and im sure il be getting on here alot!

Of the three listed, Scharney is your best bet for a first boat. Lion I'm not sure there's a hull available (meaning you'd have to scratch build), and Alaska, just due to the way the rules & that ship's design compare, is a complete dog in the hobby. Oh, and welcome, BTW. I'm retired Navy myself, so any career-type questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks guys for the info and welcomes! Whats the average you guys spend to build one ship and about how long on average if i worked on it 2 days out of the week for about 10 hours total? I kinda really want to get things started fast!

irnuke: Im an MM on an LSD working with A-Gang. What was your rate? Iv been in for over 2 years now.

I was an EM on AOE 1 with E div in engineering for just over 3 yrs of my 4. Kinda miss it. Nah, not really, lol. I did learn a massive amount about every aspect of steam turbine engineering plants, as well as all the other ship board systems. Basically if it had electricity to it, I worked on it. Did a lot of work with A gang, worked on the emergency diesel generator, was the flying squad electrician, was in charge of all pqs scheduling, and was the duty section leader all as an E4.

Now I drive an 18 wheeler pulling a flatbed. Mostly because I don't have the patience to work closely with people anymore. Generally because the IQ level and common sense level of the average person is so low it makes me want to eat a gun barrel. Or worse yet, beat them mercilessly until they stop breathing. Either way my life would be over lol. So I drive a truck, set my own schedule, and spend 95% of my time by myself at work.

And yes, I know I am an a hole, lol. But I show respect when it's earned, and love when it's needed. I'm the kind of guy you either love or hate, but can't help but respect for the things I do.

haha cool! yeah people are even more retarded out in fleet now. iv been working with SH cause i got my foot ran over by accident and they sent me TAD to them and weve been painting spaces and doing laundry, we put up signs and taped off the whole p-way with plastic and a sign that says do not enter wet paint on deck. and guess what. some MF just ripps through it all. and im on night shifts right now so thats why im up all night and im currently underway lol. but still. middle of the night like somone has to walk through that p-way.. lol..ugh.
I was also on PC-11 (Whirlwind) in Bahrain last year on IA orders, love it out there very tight crew learned a lot about engineering side and every other rate on that boat. when i first got to my ship they were going through mid life still in the drydock and the whole catasptrohe of being at this shipyard caused us to be extended by 6 months and stuff is still jacked up on our ship. Getting real tired of it here lol, gotta cross deck or go aviation side. But hey its cool your a truck driver, i love driving around and i dont mind it at all especially having my own schedule. Will see if i re-enlist or not lol...

***Forgot to ask this earlier to anyone, but Is there anywhere i can read the rules to this gaming type?? -Thanks

If you're aiming to get involved with the MABG folk, they're a BigGun club. Not sure if they're following a localized ruleset or one of the other BigGun groups. @bmarkb or @mabgfounder should be able to provide you with the answers though.

How much you spend depends on what you build. The more guns the higher the cost. Cruisers with two guns are going ro run $800-$1000 for everything. Radio, solenoids, batteries, all the supplies needed to battle it. Add $150 for each gun you go up. You can build it cheaper, but that's what you get a cheap ship that does not work as well as one that is not cheap.
How long depends on your skills and how much help you have. I've build, or been part of building, 30+ ships over the years. I don't have to think how to I design that anymore, just build. The how do I do it takes a lot of time and sometimes rebuilds. Having help speeds this along. I think I could get one done in 5 days is I put 12 hours into it each day. That's assuming a fiberglass hull and you make stuff like guns yourself. It will go a lot slower for you if you have no help. Get help. Make a goal to get X done each weekend. Then make sure it gets done.

Get help ask questions. Look over other ships for ideas and steal them. Check out portpolarbear.com we have a bunch inside of a warship articles that will help you. If Johnny ever got my how to build a warship dvd on youtube you could watch that.

Retired EM1(SS). Nuclear electrician, served on SSBN's, then went security after 9/11. Retired w/ 24 years in 2009.

Look thru some of the build threads on this site. McSpuds documents his builds very well (his more recent builds are all scratch-built wood, earlier ones were fiberglass hulls).

Ruleset: Largest club is "fastgun" - the rules linked above to IRCWCC. They're nationwide, with a good sized group in Maryland and North, and another in Atlanta and South. Here in the middle (I'm near Charlotte, NC) there's just a few of us, but a good battle site at Oakboro, NC.

Big Gun is a smaller group, more widely scattered. I'm not familiar w/ their club, so someone else will have to fill you in.

The most local club, MABG, is Big Guns. Our website is currently down and some of the content is being regenerated. In the meantime, the North Texas Battle Group's rule (NTXBG.org) are pretty similar to ours.
We currently do not have a commercial supplier of big guns, but I believe we can probably locate a source for any ship you pick.
Personally, my preference for big guns rules is that the battles are more representative of WW1/WW2 surface battles.
