This might seem like a dumb question...

Has anyone ever considered building an older vessel, like one of the first steam warships, Gloire, or HMS Warrior to battle in these fights?
She'd have electric power for the screws and if you got really inventive you could try and work the sails into it too. Her broadside, while not as percise as turret guns, woud be rather heavy if you got like ten guns to a side o_O

There are a few who build the ACW ironclads but as they are small they tend to build in larger scale than we do. There was a burgeoning Age of Sail element forming but I am not sure what they are upto of late. Warrior would probably not be allowed as she is steam and iron.

That's why I thought of it when I was reading this forum. The Warrior falls in between the age of sail and the ironclads, so I thought it might be cute if someone was using one to try and fight more, ahem, 'modern' warships in this format.

EDIT: and and yet another idea bunny that won't die.
Okay, this might be a bit wordy.
    What about Submarine HMS X-1?
363 Ft long, Six forward torpedo tubes and two turrets with 5.2 inch guns. Could that be made to be a regular surface warship, as she was meant to mostly work on the surface with two turrets with light guns and say four spinal mounted heavies pointing forwards to represent the torpedo tubes?

You'd have something like 2.5inches of beam to work with.

Use of torpedo tubes would depend on what ruleset you're using.

I must say that is a very odd calibre gun for the RN to use.
