Welp, as of 9:00 am Friday, it is looking like I might have some extra time to work on ships in the immediate future.
I'm talking about the pending government shutdown which will furlough a lions share of the DoD civilian workforce. Unfortunately, looks like my position isn't critical enough to avoid it.
Not getting paid will suck. But I will have time to finish the new watertight box to replace the Verite's leaky one. I could also start and make good progress on my first build of the year: a 1/96 scale Jean Bart (there will be a thread on it in the build section). Oh! I'll have time to build 12 cannons for various people and projects too.
Still ... I would rather get paid. :p

Hmm..maybe we ought to run a sale with x% off if you now have the time but not the money to shop with Strike because of a furlough. =]

Oh heck yeah... I just got hired by the Army Hospital at Ft. Stewart, just in time for the shutdown.

You'all quit your bitchin! You now you'll get paid for any time off (just like the last shutdown). It's the poor slobs who are "essential" and don't get a free vacation that get screwed.

Maybe. Officially, furloughed employees will not get back paid.

Well thats not too bad. I was just reading if the government does shut down, and then you are killed on active duty, your family will not receive your death benifits, including assistance for your funeral, your family is fully responsible. After it gets funded, then they will make up the difference. What a crock load of crap is that. If I was still in, I would say fine send me home right now. After you get the funding going bring me back again, I will take a furlough.

They'll still get the SGLI insurance, which was 500k when I was in, and I think it's gone up since then. That's paid monthly from your check, and it's actually handled thru a regular life insurance company. If they don't pay, they'll be open to massive civil liability... that type of thing goes before a jury. And what jury isn't going to be sympathetic to the recently-bereaved widow/er and kids versus the 'big evil insurance company'?
