Who prefers Mode 1 (throttle on the right-hand stick) and who prefers Mode 2 (throttle on the left-hand stick)?

Who is a weirdo and uses something completely different?

That is actually the wrong question because the throttle location as defined by the mode is for airplanes.

The question would be more like do you like a ratchet throttle or a spring throttle.

So if you run your throttle with the ratchet/slider then mode 2 is best. If you use springs on your throttle then mode 1 is best.. in my opinion. In mode 1, the throttle channel is elevator on the receiver.

Mute point because you can switch the bail and springs on the gimbal to either side. I use mode two with spring return.

On the DX6i you can swap the gimbals but you cant add the springs. They use pins that are embedded in the side of the gimbal mechanism that can only be added or removed by taking the gimbal completely apart.

I believe you could do that on the original Spektrum BUT you had to have a spare lever for the spring (if I remember correctly), in which case just adding a spring is not that easy.

With a mode 1 radio you don't have to modify anything on the radio at all. The left gimbal has both springs and is ready to go... the kicker is when you want two 'sprung' gimbals... then you have to send the radio in for mods or buy a used radio for parts.

And as I found out a few days ago Spektrum does not sell parts at all, if you need something then you have to send in your radio for repair. I am not sure about Futaba but I don't think they sell gimbals and such either.

Another good thing I like about mode 1 is that the bind/timer button is on the left side and the AUX is on the right corner which is my firing hand, which is how the original DX6 is setup (in mode 2 on that radio). This worked out great because I was used to turning the pump on/off with my firing hand on the right corner. The bind/timer switch is on the left where I rarely use it (comparted to Aux) and the flap button (second pump) is in the same place on both radios.

So that is the entire difference between mode 1 and 2 on the DX6I the two switches in the corner, the sprung gimbal is on the left, and you substitute elevator for throttle on the radio and receiver. Then you are in business.

I primarily use HK radios and like my throttle on the right with springs on all the gimbals.

I prefer mode 2, and am right handed, which leaves my right hand available to do the firing and turret rotation.

I'm right handed, and prefer mode 1. I have one radio that has the firing buttons on the right side back for one handed battling.

Why not add a reversed radio for the other hand..... you could battle two boats at once..... or battle yourself if no one is around to play with! ;)
