Here are my potential winter projects. There's no way I'll finish them all. 1) IJN Ibuki, a carrier conversion of a Ralph Coles' Mogami hull is on the workbench. It's over a month behind schedule due to the unexpectedly long rebuild of a club member's CL HMCS Uganda, but will be ready for trials in May. 2) HMS Black Prince, WWI armored cruiser. Needs a partial resheeting and minor cosmetic work plus a new Palmer regulator. It'll probably be sold locally in the spring. 3) HMS Minotaur, WWI armored cruiser. Also needs a partial resheeting and minor cosmetic repairs. This will be my main Allied ship until I build something faster. 4) HMS London CA. Steve Hill owes me a London Class hull for rebuilding HMCS Uganda but I haven't been able to contact him since October. I'd really like to build this ship after the Ibuki. 32 knots and a very large reserve buoyancy - great for Treaty! 5) Deciding between HMS Rodney and Vanguard, both at about the same stage of early construction. Rodney is slow but one of my favorite ships. Whichever one is picked it won't be finished until mid-late summer. Bob
I'll be starting a Prince of Wales after the new year (if I maintain employment) it'll be my main ship this next year. I'll still have the Markgraf in case everything falls thru. Otherwise she'll be a loner boat.
I may have to shelve some of my projects. I was at the new visitors center in Gettysburg yesterday talking with the Troy Harman (Gettysburg National Military Park) and a group from the History Channel. It looks like I may be very busy this year with Living Histories and film shoots.
Build HMS Hood for Rhine event in May. Hull is being shipped this week from Canada, with turret covers provided by Bob P. Maintain HMS Renown. Re-sheet, and a couple/few minor improvements. And add some detail to the upper-works. She worked really well after her first event, where she was too top-heavy. The super-structure was lightened, and some weight lowered inside the hull, and she ran fine after that. Maintain Strasbourg. Re-sheet the hull, and add some detail to the upper-works and she is good-to-go. 2009 will be her third season in Treaty. She is a well-ballenced fast capital-ship, and a great loaner-boat. Convert my old Bearn over to Treaty. This will give us a slow, (but powerful) fleet aircraft-carrier. She will have (2) 75 round cannons aft, and a 50 round cannon forward, and a full-unit pump. my projects are in order: - Complete my light carrier Belleau Wood. She needs her superstructure above the hangar deck done. This will be done with blue foam to keep the weight down. This will be my secondary/scenario ship. - Refit the battlecruiser Invincible. She needs to have her gun mounts modified to point at different areas then they do currently, and have her radio box/gun plumbing returned (presently in the Salem). This will be my primary combat ship this year. - Build a new radio box and re-plumb the guns on the Salem as she is using the stuff from the Invincible at the moment. I intend to use this as a loaner ship. - Work on building a new superstructure for the Salt Lake City. So, with a little luck and motivation, I'll have 3 ships available to use this year. I'm also hoping to have a new guy who primarily does airplanes at the moment come out and give combat a try.
