So I was bored today whilst the Junior Ensign was sleeping and... The white tape down the middle of the hull is the waterline. The rest of the white tape marks ribs & subdeck. Black tape marks the stringers for the armour belt. Holes for the shafts & rudder have been made (not shown in pic above). Subdeck & deck glued together with west system epoxy. The deck will be split into atleast two pieces, probably three. Planning on equipping it with triple sterns & half unit pump (obviously), brushless motors/esc (from my personal collection), and lithium batteries. Might get to cut out windows tomorrow if weather is good & the Junior Ensign is sleeping.
I've never seen a Des Moines class build before, so this should be interesting. Looking forward to seeing more progress. Beaver
I think mainly, that is because they are BFT's. But, I like big ships (I cannot lie). Anyways, its been really crappy rainy weather so I haven't gotten much else done except drilling about 25% of the corners of all the windows (there are a lot of them). Hopefully, I won't dremel part way through any ribs this time.
Thats one long ship... I had a hull at one time, long ago... gave the hull to a young battler at the 2002 IRC NATS, not sure if they built the ship or not... WIll be nice to see her on the water. Do you have the turrets for her? If not I may even have a set around here someplace I can give you.
Finished drilling out the corners of all the windows today, thankfully the rain held off. Using the flexible attachment with a dremel was definatly a lot easier than using a hand drill. Much lighter, and I think my holes were drilled much more accurately and much, much faster. I used a 1/8" wood/metal drillbit if anybody is curious. Next step... cutting out the windows (the most fun part of any build )
I know what you mean about big ships. It's sort of the reason I picked Rodney as my main BS boat. She's a big, fat, clumsy, Bismarck killer. :rolleyes" Beaver
Chase, and Beaver, I don't care have many times people say that its mean were you about to get the window cut? Nikki
Was able to get outside and work on the Salem for a bit today. Cut about 60% of the windows on the starboard side using my oscilating cutting tool.
Finished cutting out all the windows today thanks to the junior ensign sleeping and the weather for not snowing. Next step, deck installation.
