It just occured to me that most AoS ships did not have clearly marked waterlines. Since the scoring specifies different point values for different parts of teh hull, does that mean we will have to stick on a waterline?
Although this is probably way to early to worry about since we haven't even had a battle (or even a ship on the water) yet ... has anyone considered simply making all hull holes score the same no matter what the location? Would make keeping score much easier and simplify the entire waterline marking thing (i.e. no waterlines).

I hadn't thought of that. Counting just holes and striking of colors would make it fast and easy :)

Everything below the main whale would count on the waterline ?

or Most plans do have a load waterline or best sailing trim waterline.

Also in the periode we are looking at pretty much all man-of-war ships had coppered bottoms teh copper plating would end slightly above the waterline, so everthing in teh copper part of a hull would score as on or below the waterline ?

    just ideas.

thou i think that tugboats fast and easy idea is probably teh best :D if a ship gets hammered at or below teh waterline more than another then they`ll anyway have to strike (or sink) sooner than one that gets them into its upper works.

I'm of the mind that sailors paint a danger colour where guns are not fired when the ship heels over. There's a 2-point hole if ever I saw one. Shoot her in the belly!
