So I'm building my first Big Gun ship. I have acquired a hull, batteries, speed controllers, motors, enough radio gear to outfit my own convoy, and all the materials to build cannons. Today my wife asked for my Christmas list... All I can think of is, "I wished you'd asked me that last month". My list so far: Palmer's 'Rock The Boat' or 'Boulder' regulator 47 c.i. 3000 PSI aluminum HPA Tank w/ myth regulator iTheater glasses and a wireless video camera to mount on the forward turret. What's on your Warship Wish List
Whoa there, cowboy. Don't get a Rock The Boat regulator. While suitable for Fast Gun destroyers, they've got threads for a 16-gram cartridge. You're gonna need something a lot bigger for your ship, so I'd recommend a Stabilizer regulator from the same company. That's about the best you can get from Palmer, and some of the club's top skippers (including me) love them. The HPA tank sounds interesting, though. I'm probably going to wait another year to upgrade, simply because I've already got a brand-spanking-new 20-oz CO2 bottle and I'm too stingy to upgrade before I've even used it.
Droidling, when did this happen. We had no idea youd done so much, what's new? And how about tools, those are always in style.
I feel a bit disadvantaged having never played paintball. How would this one be; Visit this site I'm trying to avoid having the regulator attached directly to the tank. It takes up too much room along the center-line. If I can get a short line to hook-up the tank connection to the regulator I can put the regulator along the side of the tank. Break line should work if I can find a fitting to go on the tank.
I don't feel like I've DONE that much. I've mainly just been shopping[] Even managed to pick up a PT boat just to have something to drive around the local sailboat pond. I probably should have ask Kotori about this. I'm sure he will still see it. What would you guys think about putting a camera like this in a ship. Inside a water tight case of course. I just think it would be cool to check out the view from the capitain bridge between battles Visit this site The video I see from it on the internet looks pretty good. At least until you start having fast moving objects filling most of the frame. I'm hoping that is a result of being compresses to fit through a 1 Mb DSL line. With a direct WiFi connection to my laptop I think I could get some decent video out of it. (I really should have asked Kotori about this.)
About 10 years ago a friend introduced me by saying; "This is Terry, he has every tool known to man". That was a bit of an exaggeration. But I definitely have the basic tools well covered. Now if someone makes a special propeller shaft alignment and installation tool, or other boat specific tools that would be cool to know about. Terry
Terry, we had a discussion about onboard cameras a while back at a build session; the consensus was that as long as you weren't watching the video and using it to aim, it'd be a great way to record some action shots, especially if it was aimable to where you could film some sidemounts and the water near them (where presumably the target would be getting hit). That, combined with some shots pointing in other directions, and some shore-based camera footage, could be spliced into a great narrative video
Droidling, that's the regulator we got for the VUs. Make sure to select the low pressure spring (0-250psi) for the inline stabilizer. You can choose a pressure gauge as well, if you want, but it isn't necessary. Kotori and I found some gauges at the local paintball store that are much closer to the pressure range that we want that the gauges Palmer offers, so we will get and install those.
Take a look at John's Dunkerque at the next gun building seminar. He's got it set up just the way I like. Basically, I use an ASA off the bottle to turn 90* and reduce the threads to 1/8 NPT. I then use standard pipe fittings to turn it another 90* and connect to the regulator. I can't find any pictures at the moment, but this is used by many other captains as well, probably including others on the forum.
The camera was really intended to contribute some footage to the Bitondo Bros. productions. I also have a use for it on a robot I'm working on. No one has any favorite Warship related products to suggest? Perhaps some indispensable gear for campaign days? I can think of a few parts I will still need. Props & Shafts A good pump Turret covers & other detail parts I'm just not sure where she could order them to get them here by Christmas.
I've been through all the Palmer's tank adapters and I don't see anything that goes from ASA to 1/8 NPT with a 90 EL built into it. Have you got a link? I really can't wait till the next seminar. I kind of promised her a list by the end of the weekend. I suppose this is small stuff but as long she has an order coming it would be nice to get it all.
I believe ASA stands for Alternative Air Source. It is sometimes also called a duckbill or inline adapter. Most have a "duckbill" for attaching to a paintball marker that can be cut off to save length. Here is a link"/>Visit this site to one example. They all come with a 1/8 NPT thread standard, which is just what you need. You should be able to find one at any paintball shop, and any fittings and pipes at a hardware store. Here is a photo"/>Visit this site showing a duckbill ASA with the duckbill cut off and a short pipe and elbow attached to a Rock regulator from Palmers. The pipe is short so it can fit closely to the side of a 3.5oz bottle. A larger bottle will require a slightly longer pipe. The bottle would be in the upper right of the photo.
Hey Terry? When are we going to see you again? I am trying for a get together here at my new place on New Years Day. Ask the boys. Food will be served, No one walks away hungry. Email me if interested
Gascan: I'd seen those online and thought they were just for support. I've never seen a picture that shows an output port. I guess I'm going to continue to suffer for the lack of paintball experience. Dan: Haven't been down that way except for a gun building session at Dave's. I figure on being booked up until Christmas. New Years Eve I have plans. New Years Day seems possible. I'll get in touch with you off line once we I get through the pre-Christmas panic.
