You should probably go visit a battle first. See what kind of captain you want to be.... battleship, cruiser, sitting duck... I mean cargo... Most people say build a mid-sized class battleship/battlecruiser first. I say build what inspires you to keep building.
If you are in Houston, get up with the North Texas Battle Group fellows and visit them when they are having an event. It is a big gun club with many members that will point you in the right direction. After learning something about the differences between big gun and fast gun boats, decide which one is best for you. People in this hobby are very helpful and with the information gained from other captains, in person and on this site, you will have a better understanding of the "how-tos" of constructing a boat. Personally I think a nice cruiser or battlecruiser would be safe and easy to build for a first timer. Maybe a fiberglass hull of Lion or Von Der Tan from Battlers Connection. Remember that the smaller a ship, the more difficult laying out the interior can be. Do your research, ask questions and you will have lots of fun in this hobby. Good luck, Steve
In BIG GUNs, they say to pick a BIG Battleship. The smaller the ship the more difficult the build. Then when it comes tome to trim! UGH!!!! it can be a night mare. It took me months to get the right combination to trim out my armed Liberty! My Destroyer will be sitting on the shelf for some time to come because of the high tech items I need to purchase to make her armed and operational and float at the water line.
