For a new project in the shipyard, been working on some bits and pieces, thought I'd share one

Put this together from what I could find of photographs and plans. Not perfect, but it'll do well enough

    Very nice indeed.
Are those sometimes referred to as between decks, or quasi turrets?

    Thanks

Yes, the BD designation for the mount actually means 'between decks' in this case

What ships actually used these BD turrets?

Cool low profile turrets originally designed for mounting on carriers but wound up on many different types.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm not too familiar with British mounts. I enjoyed learning about this one...

Cherry-red AA, going to put a set of racing stripes down the side of the hull, little chrome on the bow

The great thing about 3d printers is just how accessible they can make some things. I realized the other day I'd like some ladders - now, I could go buy some N scale ladders, or I could spend a few minutes in inventor to knock up a model, drop 12 onto the build plate in Cura or Slic3r and send the job to the printer. 10 minutes later I'm popping ladders off the printbed.

One quick pass of rattlecan primer and they're ready for final cleanup, trimming to size, installation and painting.

The downside of 3d printers is that they're really still a hobby and, at times, an art form themselves. I've spent an absurd amount of time fiddling with mine, replacing parts, experimenting with settings, etc.

And this is where this little work in progress is going to stall for a while, because the ship they're destined for isn't ready yet.
