At the top of my list is the Omaha class CL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Omaha_%28CL-4%29 35 Knots 12 x 6" 4 x 3" 3 x 2 TT Great lines, casemate and turret guns, low freeboard and a 4-stacker to boot! Not bad specs for a class of ships that were nearly 20 years old when the US entered WWII.
an added plus to the Omaha... you can use it as a Russian ship, as the Milwaukee was given to Russia as Lend lease.
A few personal favorites: HrMs Java, a Dutch light cruiser. 2.5 units, 3 shafts, 1 rudder. DKM Nurnburg, German light cruiser. 2.5 units, 3 shafts, 1 rudder. I believe she'd be superior to the "K" class offered by BC HMS Neptune (same hull as Colossus) 4 unit dreadnought, 4 shafts 2 rudders 5 main battery turrets. Kirov, a Soviet heavy cruiser. 3.0 units, 4 shafts, 1 rudder Mike D
If you like Russian CLs with main armament deck and casemate guns I'm doing a run of 6 Krasni Krim/Profintern hulls over the next 4-6 weeks (2 made so far). The person who made the mold for me made an error in making the port and starboard deck gun sponsons too tall (i.e. extending 1/4" too far down the hull). In consequence I have to correct the sponson error on each hull (easy but time consuming) before it's sold. The mold was to have been sold to Tugboat but I'm not happy with it because of the mistake. After the first run of 6 corrected hulls I'm going to replace the sponsons on the hull plug and do a more accurate mold. That'll save me and/or Tugboat the extra work on each hull. The Omaha Class CLs were slightly bigger than Krasni Krim (36' longer and 5' wider). I don't know if the Omaha Class had a single rudder or twin in-line rudders like the KK. Oh, KK's 2 sisters were completed as tankers (!) so with some modifications the hull can be used for a convoy ship. Bob Pottle
Re HMS Canada, I've wanted to do a hull mold for several years but had no cross-sections or hull lines. HMS Canada was a slightly enlarged version of the KGV design. I now have plans for the KGV, including hull sections. With those and the side and top views of HMS Canada I can work out a set of hull cross-sections for Canada that won't be too far off. This will likely be my major hull project for the winter, the minor one being Spanish CL Navarra. Bob Pottle
For the Kirov, I believe one of the other WWCC'ers built a mold. It is for Big Gun combat, so it might be stretched, but I will ask about it at the battle this weekend.
Another wish would have to be the HIJMS Tone. I don't think she'd be much for fast gun work, but I wonder about big gun. 8 8" concentrated in one area like that has got to count for something, plus she has torpedoes and is 35 knots. If nothing else, she should give a Mogami a run for her money in the "torpedo cruiser" department. Mike D
i vote yes for Yubari, This morning i posted that to this list but turns out i wasn't logged in, and i was in a hurry to get to work.... so thanks for suggesting it anachronus!
i was planning on getting one this winter but its been knocked farther down on my list as some new projects have sprouted up...
It may have been left off because of its light displacement. She'd be awfully tough for a lot of people to build. Mike D
