    1) Totally doable. Easy, even.
    2) Use adhesives, just not one that dissolves ABS :)

I have done exhaustive destructive testing of printed ABS structures. It'll hold as long as you don't go too thin. For Ribs, I'd do 4 perimeters and 40% infill, 3 layers top and bottom.

That's how I built the Rostock; printed parts for it on the Mendel, and ordered the metal bits and the belts, etc.

Actually, for that price, just keep buying those until you have a botfarm the size you want. Buying the components separately and putting together repraps, you'll be way ahead buying those ready-built at $400 apiece...

Do NOT get the MendelMax kit you linked to, it is only the plastic parts, and doing the rest of that build is not easy.

THAT is the 64-dollar question. The ready-built ones at that link you shared for $399 each are a STEAL. That is my recommendation. If your budget isn't that big, stop and save your money until it is, because you're not going to build one yourself for a whole lot less than that. And if you've never built one before, you won't build one for less than that without a lot of electronics geniusness on your side.
