Blasphemy! Those straight bows were sweet. The Atlantik bows looked sleek and fast, but the straight bow just said I am powerful and I go where I please.
Really? I had heard that the Hitler didn't consider she for a warship powerful enough and therefore they were all he. J
No, it was Captain of the Bismarck (Ernst Lindemann) who felt that his ship was far too powerful to be a she. Captain Topp of Tirpitz on the other hand, always referred to Tirpitz as she.
Just wondering, what is a resin main and secondary as said what comes in the hull kit? I would prefer to buy only the hull so i could use the leftover money for other things.
Resin main and secondaries refers to the main, and secondary turret covers. They are molded out of resin. I think a hull kit includes the fiberglass hull, with a sub-deck (rim), and main deck (wood), and perhaps a set of ship plans. Mikey
Ryan: I feel that you are spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere. What is the largest ship that you can have transported? Have you contacted any of your local clubs? Like I have said, get active with a club. they can give you a lot of help and guidance. They may have a set of plans on hand! They may have complete ships or hulls for sale or loan!
I feel like that too. ._. I should be able to transport it, and i am looking at local club rules. I haved looked at the magb, and am still looking for cheseapke club rules.
That is a good start Ryan! Now I would susgest that you hold off on a ship until you have met with a club. Attend their meets. Talk with the members and see their ships. I am sure that they will give you a chance to Captain a ship on the water to try out what it is like to sail. Contact the clubs to see if there are any members close to you. Meeting with someone local is the best way to learn first hand what this is all about. Also I believe that they would be very willing to help you with your build.
There have been a lot of good points. I know it probably seems like Knight is harping on the transportation issue. Unless you have a pickup or large SUV Scharnhorst is a challenge. Remember: you have to fit more than the boat in your car. You also need whatever supplies you will need to troubleshoot problems and probably a folding table and chair plus a small cooler. Depending on how far you are from meets you might also need camping gear, etc. I had a Scharnhorst class ship for a couple of years. Those ships are some of the nicest sailing ships you can build at our scale. They are fast, very maneuverable, stable and great looking. You would certainly enjoy sailing even an unarmed one - if you can reasonably transport it. Installing the aft turret will be a bit of a challenge as space is tight back there. You will probably end up with a custom cannon back there. You might want to start with only arming the forward turrets (once you get around to arming it). Well... my wife is calling me to dinner. Hopefully I will see you at a meet sometime.
Transporting even a Scharnhorst doesn't require stuffing it in the trunk... if you don't have passengers. When Gascan and I first joined the hobby, I refurbished a used Scharnhorst and Gascan borrowed a KGV. Since we were (and still are) driving a small economy car, we had to get creative with transportation. Gascan sat in the back seat, and we leaned the passenger-side front seat as far back as it could go. The two big battleships sat side-by-side there, bows forward and rear ends hanging over the head support. However, we could not bring any additional passengers along. I also know one guy who fits 2 or more big battlewagons in his tiny little sports car using the same method. He likes having spare ships, in case one breaks down. Basically, transportation isn't as big an issue as you might think. Having access to experienced skippers who can give you good advice on building is a much more important concern.
Well then, If transportation is of no problem, then all that is necessary is for the gentleman to get with the local clubs for some personal attention.
Does anyone who has a yahoo acount know what the cheasaepeak rules are? I think you have to be a member to look at them thanks to yahoo ._.
If you want to talk about packing cars ... I was heading to the 2008 MWCI NATS ... The Car: VW New Beetle The Ships: Richelieu, Bearn, and Gloire The Equipment: Folding table, huge tackle box, 2 6v 36Ah batteries, 4 cans of paint, extra sheeting, 3 plan sets, 3 transmitters, 2 20oz CO2 tanks, 3 3.5oz CO2 tanks, a small suitcase of clothing, plus a small plastic bag of misc stuff. Yes, it all fit, though you wouldn't have put a passenger in all that. heh.
That is GREAT guyus. I use a Dodge Grand Caravan, so I pack : The wife and kids, ships, Bar-B-Q Grill, cooler, food, drinks, snacks, tables, chairs, tool box, computer, cameras, etc, and still have some room left over. The thing now, is to get this young man to meet with a club! "You can't talk the talk with out walking the walk!"
I packed up usually Yamato running up the center from the tailgate between the bucket seats.Nagato or Bismarck on the passenger side, the 4ft 135lb co2 tank strapped to a dolly behind the driver seat, couple of crates containing batteries and gear, double sized toolbox. Field equipment , ropes, goggles, signs, ect, then I squeeze my little frame barely behind the steering wheel and drive .
