Wouldn't be people and boats getting in the way of each other if there were twenty or thirty thousand PT boats? Or did I not understand your question?

The Iowa's wouldn't have to fire a shot, just run them all over in droves.

Load the 16" guns with grapeshot and take the whole lot out with one broadside.

Yeah, if the Japanese could build San-Shiki AA projectiles for the 18" guns, the Us could've made a multiprojectile round for the 16" :)

wait are you talking scale here or real life boats? If it was real life boats then the Iowa's would be destroyed simply by sheer numbers of torpedos. If your talking scale then 1) Pt boats are to dang small to be effective, 2) The Iowa's wake would be able to sink a lot of them and it would literally just have to run em over

Why no torpedoes? That was the PT boat's main weapon, I don't think they would go into battle without them.

because too much of a advantage. They got 50mm cannons sooner or later the shells will penetrate the armor if all shells or most hit in the same area.

Not really... they were 40mm bofors cannons and that won't do a whole lot. My best guess is that they could tear up what was on deck and do nothing significant to the hull. It would be a joke if they had no torpedoes.

They had .50 cal machineguns, which might after 100 years of concentrated fire in one spot wear a hole in the armor. Except they didn't carry nearly enough ammo to do even a few hours of sustained fire.

Let me point out a few problem with your idea.
    1. During the war the US navy did not have 20-30 thousand PT boats.
2.I can't find any evidence that a PT boat carried a 50mm cannon, some carried 40mm, but no 50's.
    3. It would take forever to blast a hole through 12" armor with a 40mm cannon, also, if you sat there trying to blast though, the secondaries would blast you to pieces first.
    4. Even you could blast through the armor, a 40mm hole is not going to sink a battleship.

So, all in all, without torpedoes, a PT boat is helpless, and can not sink a battleship. :)

methinks someone (OP) is confusing 50mm and 50cal and the usage of the word 'cannon'

you run into the same issue, even if you use destroyer instead of PT its main weapon would be torps.
