    Hi all,

I am planning on a 1/96 boat, that way I'll have Rob to fight with. I ment that Darrens friend Micheal's Nelson hull would be in 1/144(as he is ausbg) and that the Mouldeans Nelson is 1/96.

Umm, I spelt Mick's name wrong, he's a Michael, not a Micheal! Probably why we call him Mick..
    I didn't realise you meant 1:96 scale, Mick's hulls are all 1:144.

I have a very nice plan for the Nelson if you need to borrow it.

I like the Nelson, but I would have to make the hull in two pieces in order to transport it. I have never made a wooden boat before (they've all been from FG hulls) so I think I won't try anything fancy.

I should think that the 8" secondary turrets from your Virginia class would work fine on both the Connecticut and Mississippi classes. As well as the primary turrets should one wish to build a Pennsylvania class armored cruiser.

Yeah, from looking through the pictures in "America's Steel Navy", they look about identical.Just got to get finished with the house! The paperwork for incorporating is being filled out and I am getting my power tools shortly :)

Really? Hmm.... This is sounding promising. Not sure when the first battle will be though. At least for me, I'm still constructing.

    Not trying to rush anyone.
But when someone schedules an event, I will almost certainly be there.

Still in the pre-construction phase. The University lakes would be a lovely place for battling...assuming permissions could be obtained.

from what I remember of dive school in Morgan City, LA I would be hesitant to come down anytime before October/November, the heat and humidity was unbearable in the summer months. Had a lung infection for 6 weeks:(

From what I can tell Virginia, Conneticutt, Mississippi and Pennsylvania (ACR) classes all use the Mk. 12 8" turrets.

Yeah, the Virginias used them for the secondary turrets... half of her 8" guns were in those turrets, which makes those a priority for manufacture :) (turrets and such that go on more than one ship are prioritized :) Kind of like the Yamato secondaries/Mogami primaries. The GWF turrets in general are so simply shaped that they'll get done early on the list, in 1/96 scale.

I ordered the combo sander and drill press from Harbor Freight a day ago. Can't wait to get to work! I'm also working on plans while I wait for the power tools and set up shop (hopefully get done moving soon, too, the movers come for the heavy stuff on monday).

I have my first paying customer!!! One set of plans is going out the door tomorrow morning! It's for a 1/96 ship, too :)

I really need to learn how to make hulls. I was thinking of starting with something very simple. Maybe a Clemson or something.

Got a jigsaw or sabersaw? Or, if you have a hot glue gun, got scissors? (not kidding)

If you've got a jigsaw, making hulls is easy...

    http://chemistry1.che.georgiasouthern.edu/bkoehler/myships/vanguard/construction/index.html

Written from Brian's point of view, but it covers everything I'd say, pretty much :) And, you can see a picture of the rare and elusive Tugboat working at the jigsaw...

Need to get the plans scaled up and I can give it a try. Flush decker destroyers being my other quirk (apart from pre-dreads)
