I put them slightly below center, opposite the magazine. I use large magnets, others use the 5/16 diameter ones, the 1/2” ones have worked better for me with my hose configuration. I put them below center so they don’t ‘pull’ the bbs up which can cause double shots
I use ca to stick them on then coat with goop

Cool beans, thanks for the help! Any tips on getting down angle with these things? should I bend the neck a tad?

Yes you can bend the neck/up tube.

If you have strike guns i'm assuming that they are soldered together, but in the future if you use compression fittings then you can rotate the parts, so I usually will rotate the T slightly to get the down angle I need (I have the barrel perpendicular(ish) to the magazine (when viewed from above), so if you rotate the T the barrel elevation changes). I typically try to get the elbow and breech nut as close to the edge of the barbette as possible which typically gives the best down angle on sidemounts

Okay cool. Yeah they're strike guns and soldered together. I'm already thinking about hitting them with my soldering iron to allow me to manipulate them in that way, so it's good to know I'm not a madman. I figure I'll give them a good solid look before loosening the solder and get them to a point where I can mount them.

Started working on this project on the snow day today. Focused on the aft battery mounts. 4x headway 15Ah cells for the pumps. They just fit across the bottom, goal was to fill in the gap outboard.

Also put on the float mount points, four 10-24 bolts through the bottom

Aft ones outboard of pump mounts, the four are centered around the center of gravity

Epoxied in the mounts, used a layer of cloth for wear resistant

Small steps today. I put the rudder servo in the other day.

I put the connectors on the solenoids and put them in the boat

The stern gun accumulation tanks are 1/4 npt pipe nipples, along with the 1/4 npt check valves. These are heavier than I expected, but the boat should be able to take it

I wrestled the aft guns into place

View with barrels installed. They will be adjusted slightly, but they are generally where they should end up

Plan is to sheet the boat this weekend, then maybe get some wiring done

Kevin, will that forward gun clear the pump outlet flow?

Yes the pump trajectory is pretty low, so the forward gun should clear it. The port side sidemount might be in the path so I’ll keep an eye on it

I do like the gun setup, with the slower speed of the boat, at least you will make the fast boats pay to chase you. ;).

Making the stern guns right now for my ship, hope its ready for the may battle in Statesboro.

I have to totally refit the Kumano drive system, at the Bru I ran it like usual, but in one day, 4 battles, broke 4 different dog bones, kept getting the props tangled up with the props on the Allied boats, usually QE's. Going to direct drive I think.

How will that help the cause? just removing the nylon dogbones I imagine will remove a point of failure, but where will that stress be expressed when the dogs are out? I've my shafts running through some GB500s, and have been a bit unnerved by how much my props project out for pretty much thee same reason you're toughening up your rig.
I was thinking of amending it by switching to smaller props

I have disliked dog bones from the first battle I went to. I saw 2 ships have issues and decided it was u-joints or couplers for me. They are obnoxiously noisy to boot.

I don't know if it's the innate engineer in me, but the wine of miss-aligned gearboxes and dog bones just sends daggers into my brain! :bang:

I agree however gearboxes are sometimes just noisy. Especially if they use straight cut gears. As in my Sharnhorst. Noisy but strong and lets me run 2 j550s on a single shaft with a big 5 blade high pitch prop. Great acceleration and steering.

Slowly plugging along. I’ve been resheeting the fleet. Lots of balsa, silkspan, and contact cement.
