Hello everyone, I recently purchase a Beautiful Andrea Doria from jadfer. I have many question of course as a new builder of warships. I'm taking it one step at a time keeping things simple. My concern is some of the ribs are missing along with some of the fiberglass hull that the ribs are secured to. The fiberglass hull is very thin and pitted from prior skin replacements. The wooden ribs will be easy enough to cut with a scroll saw and a profile gauge. But what type of glue should I be using to secure them to the hull? Also I need to know the best way to repair the fiber glass that the ribs attach to and the pitting in the hull? My plan #1 Strip the hull down leaving the deck #2 Repair/remove damaged wooden ribs #3 Use Birch 1/4" plywood and cut replacement ribs #4 Repair fiberglass exterior of the hull with epoxy resin and cloth #5 Sand, waterproof and paint Thanks any feed back wood be great
okay sounds good. I'm working on my hull now. but I will need your assistance when it comes time for placing armaments, pumps, Etc...
The ribs are very very thin... and missing in two places. He will duplicate the ribs on the other side with wood then cover them in fiberglass to restore it to 'better' than original condition.
That's the plan J. Once the ribs are completed I'm thinking about applying a mat of fiberglass to the outside of the hull utilizing the hull as a templet . this should give the hull/ribs added strength/thickness
So it’s been awhile since my last post. The ribs are done along with fiberglass work. I’m laying out my armor belt for installation. Had a great build session at teds house got some great ideas and advice. Still work in progress
I will keep that in mind. makes pump swap easy but if the magnets don't hold I have another set to try
Just make a little wooden bracket with half a hole that wraps around the motor, just above the housing
Bottle bracket built. I turned the pump and built a simple bracket to hold it. I abandoned my magnets. They worked great but I turned the pump honestly just used the KISS method. It will make it easier to do pump swaps just cutting a zip tie. I mocked up the pump discharge looking into installing a glugglug
