I gave this one a try since it’s only $10 and will be here in the morning.

The only issue i've had is performing the correct order of voodoo to get it in programming mode. That's usually on the manual of the esc.

Just a tip, when you figure out the correct sequence of settings for the ESC that's in the boat. I write it with sharpie on like the bottom of the deck hatch or something before I epoxy the deck.

This is my first time putting a gear box is a ship.

this sucker is LOUD!! Can I do anything to shut it up or is that just the gears meshing?

    i already added grease.

The gears you are using look like 48p gears, aka small teeth gears. I would try to adjust the mesh, that can quiet them down but dont expect silence. I'm surprised its not the dogbone making all the racket.

Or replace it the quietest reduction system in the hobby.

I got the ESC programmed correctly with our a programming card. Drive motor works like a champ!

I should I prefaced my noise complaint. For me, the gears are noisy because all I have ever built are direct drives with dog bones and I was able to make those super quiet. So, the could possibly be the "right" amount of noise.

Would putting LiPo batteries on an ESC that the manual recommends NiMH cause any issues?

You should be able to find the voltage rating, or calculate it by converting # of cells. LiPo batteries alone won’t cause issues unless you exceed the voltage rating. Every ESC I’ve seen recently has a LiPo cell rating (2s, 3s, 4s, 6s, etc)

yea. Disregard. It pays to finish reading the instruction manual. Says should be good with 3S liPo which is what I’m using.

the ESCs says their water proof but they started wigging out when I put water in the hull to test the pump.

They say the ESC should be water proof but I feel like o should water proof these. Capacitors coming off the ESC. image.jpg

Alright. I’m an idiot. They are not waterproof. What do you guys recommend for a good waterproof ESC for a 4000+ brushless motor?

Would these work on my 4074 2150kv brushless motor? I have them in my Lutzow and love them.

Those are the ESC’s I use on pretty much everything. Might be a bit small for that big of a motor. Stall amps on the motor is (from what Ive seen) between 120 and 135A which is more than twice the capacity of the 60a ESC.

I currently have the 120 version but they aren’t waterproof. WillT gave me some pointers on water proofing them so I can use them.
