Oh yeah, not planning on doing anything with other models for a LOOOOONNNG time. I don't like getting my clock cleaned by PPB so easily, I'm just looking at the plans and IRCWCC rules and not finding anything about the hull deepening that I've heard about in the ruleset. Where's the rule governing that modification? is it just application of the stipulation of "maintain 1/2" freeboard" that's in the rules?

    Section II.A.18

Class 2 and lower ships using CO2 may add 25% or one (1) pound (whichever is greater) to
their maximum model weight, but they shall have a minimum of 1/2" of freeboard at the
ship’s lowest point. Hull depth shall be adjusted as required.

I am trying to figure out how to interpret this rule... ??? 1/2 inch I get. Hull depth shall be adjusted I don't get, to what legnths?

It is really open ended and illposed in the rules. Most would just deepen at the waterline vertically

What's your experience level? Have you built and battled a ship at an event? Just want to understand context of question

For that rule, hull depth can be increased to compensate for the extra weight that's allowed, such that freeboard is not less than 1/2"

I've increased the depth of two hulls I molded, I increased both by an amount so they would have scale freeboard at max allowed weight. To figure it out, I calculated the waterplane area (area of hull if you cut the ship along the waterline), calculated the volume of water for the additional weight above scale, and divided the volume of water by the waterplane area to get a height to increase the depth. I cut the hull sections at the waterline and shifted the top half up that amount, and fared in the lines. Here are two pictures of hull sections from the Tromp class light cruiser that I stretched. Worked out really well on the water, kind of ugly on the shelf
Before (extra lines drew in on stern to get shape less Goff-like)
    Tromp hull sec modified.jpg
After. I sort of swagged the sections, cut them so the curves were smooth
    Tromp hull sec modified final.jpg
As greg said it's open ended. on the destroyer escort hull I made I split the hull sections into thirds so the bottom curves and the sheer maintained the correct shape, then elongated the midsection to have smooth lines

I get the idea that a certain legnths above the waterline to fire at, but dose the rule not work to add stability to the sub making it deeper below the waterline? Or how will that work rule wise, allowed to do and what not to.

Same principle applies, stretch the middle as required. You didn’t answer my questions about experience. Probably something between 3/8” to 3/4” increase in hull depth would be appropriate for additional displacement. Rules only matter if you attend events. I recommend not getting hung up on the rules, it is a very common issue those with less experience fall into. It might seem counterintuitive, but a lot of key strokes have been expended explaining rules over and over again to people that never show up, where very rarely are there issues with new peoples’ boats with respect to the rules when they do show up, and experienced captains are more than willing to help in person if there is an issue

I have been collecting plans and building 3D models of ships I want to build like the balister class, crane ship No.1, and a few others I have plans for building but not a ship yet as I had moved to a virtual dead zone where there are no clubs and with in 6 hours of travel in any direction, rite now I am not pressed to build any thing but I want to get the designs I want and build a few ships. After I graduate school and move to a area that has a club I want to be ready to hit the ground running. I 400 or if I build a milk cow sub for convoy I'm out to have fun if it is designing, building and eventually to battle :)

If you have not built and fought a combat boat I would recommend you you get a few years under your belt with a good starter boat and forget you even thought of a sub at this time in the hobby. When you have the experience to build several surface boats that work 99% of the time you will be ready for a sub, you will love and hate a sub.

    I love a challenge...

I started some time ago I-400
that is why I ask the questions I do, to make sure when I show up to a meet I'm not turned away after I already have something together get it right first time.

haven't you learned? If you get a submarine and shoot torpedoes you might hit R'lyeh and disturb Cthulhu and then get killed (not to mention everyone will get killed, he's Cthulhu).
