I wanted to make sure this boat worked before I posted it and it does. I have some bugs to work out but for a first run it went very well and after 20 min. in the water not a drop inside. I have photos through out the build so I will post them over time. Yes some of the fish are larger than the sub. Just sitting on the surface. Running with conning tower just below the surface. Plexiglass bottom access and a very packed compartment.
nice! So you access the electronics through a hatch in the lower hull? how is that outer hull plate secured? I remember something about you having a single shot torpedo setup, is that a muzzle loader with a bike pump attachment on the top of the hull to fill that compressed air tank?
They have never seen a sub and I ran into a few. The sub has two single shot breach loaded torps firing a .243 60 grain bullet each tube. It can do a lot of damage if I get a clean shot.
Why yes, @Z Boat I will totally spend an entire day looking at whatever further photos you post up. Thanks for asking.
Ok I am going to start posting the build of this sub and I want to point out if you are fool hardy enough to build a sub, I would recommend the biggest boat you can (I400). It is whole new way of building and running a boat, one that you intentionally send your own boat under the water and with a little luck it will comeback to the surface. This boat is a wood hull using plans from Strike Models. It is built to Big Gun rules, it has been deepened a 1/2" and is 24-1/2" long. It is a positive buoyancy sub and dives using its fore and aft dive planes. It is a single shot boat with two 1/4" tubes in the bow. The weapon takes up to 1/3 of the hull and the boat was built around the gun. Be sure to use a valve that dose not leak water back into the boat. MJV-2 with out the vent and a mat2 tank works great. I had to build a lot of this boat around most components. Also be sure everything works before install. More to follow.
Here are some pic's. I would not build a sub this small again, build a sub in the 350' + and it will be far more enjoyable.
how did you build your box to house your electronics, sealing the box, servo pull/throw rods entering and exiting and the alike?
The servo rods are brass rods basically going through stuffing tubes exiting just like the shafts and the entire hull is the radio box with the hatch on the bottom. I stopped trying to make access to everything in the sub and it is much easier to operate and if a part fails that I do not have access too, I go through the side of the hull and repair it, the beauty of a wood hull. In this boat only the motors and the guns are not accessible. Pic shows access hatch built into the hull.
Here is a very short video of this subs first battle, to bad he missed the three attacks. I will start getting more sub videos with action as soon as we can play again. View: https://imgur.com/a/esszIbc
I think I have some footage of the type IX, not sure if it attacks in the video though. It sank my transport, I hope my dad got that.
