You do NOT have to build anything with this radio. There is a pretty full discussion of the radio, pluses and minuses, in the NTXBG knowledgebase (Vex Radio). The issue is that the RX that comes with it is not really useful, as it is large and is only the RF stage (does not give you servo signals). You can pick up several radio RXs that are compatible - listed in the article, so I will not repeat it here. Many under $30, and use the Vex RX crystals - a good thing. Cheers, Wreno
