Hi guys. I am building the Waldeck Rousseau, and was building to the MWC rules, which had me listed as 2.5 units. From what I have found in the rules for IRC, is the Waldeck now a 3 unit ship? Thank you for your help and have a great day. Cheers, Garrett
why are some heavy cruisers 3 units and some 3.5 when they are all class 3 in ircwcc like brooklyn and cleveland is it the guns?
The units are based on tonnage. Certain things such as rudder size and sink points are based on class
And is the SMS Scharnhorst a class 3 in the IRCWCC also? It was class 2, 2.5 units in the MWCI so now it gets more rudder. That is nice.
Yes, it works well too. They've only sunk mine twice in the number of times I've taken it down to Georgia (dead battery both times).
Sounds like its time for new batteries. What kind are you running in it? I have lots of SLA 9 aphr from my Des Moines but I think I will run the LiPO4s I have to give it that extra little umpf. 15 Aphr LiPO4s will do the trick.
John, In IRCWCC you can change batteries every sortie so you can run very inexpensive SLA's or smaller LiPo's that can be recharged between sorties. This was so the older battery types could be used and not be at a disadvantage from the LiPo boats.
I use an 8AH 2S LiPO pack. I should note both times it was the last sortie of the day (of like 5 or 6).
So, in the IRCWCC does that rule also apply to BBs? I thought that I read it in the rules and it didn't differentiate any classes of ships. That makes a big difference, especially for the Barham which would feel it a little after two long sorties pumping on 2 x 12 Ampr SLAs.
I know one of the days it was so hot i actually wanted to sink so i'd have a reason to jump in and cool off. But now I know how long they last. Now i swap out batteries after the morning during lunch.
This whole ability to change batteries every sortie really changes the whole approach we have followed since 1998 in buying ship batteries. I'm an old dog and might not be able to learn tricks.
John, the size and weight are so nice with LIFE cylinder batteries. Once you go blue, your ship will love you. Or something like that...
Also, MWC is no more so IRC is the fastgun club now. I believe the larger armored cruisers are now 3 units but still 26 seconds. Which is great for rudder area and a full size pump outlet! Once you super glue together 10AH NiMH packs until you have 60 amps stuffed into a Nagato, you'll not go back. Yeah that's the stuff.
5 sorties is nothing on an 8AH LiPO. I only put in 6.4AH on mine at Nats after 5 sorties. Scharnie loves LiPOs
Perhaps this years Nats will be a target rich environment where I can start in the middle of the enemy fleet and blow my load off in the first minute of action.
