This will be the build thread for my Tromp hull from Kevin. I'm starting a new thread so I don't clog up Kevin's build with my inferior building techniques. :) The plan is to have the boat done in time for the spring battle so this should hopefully be a quick build, we'll see.
I floated the hull, marked the hard area and ribs, and cut half the hull yesterday and the other half today.

    I'll post more later...

    Here some more photos.

Halfway done on the starboard side. Sorry for the poor image quality, I used my phone to snap most of these picks and it doesn't have a very good camera.

Some of these ribs are THICK!

To spread the hull out to the correct beam and transition between the two levels of the hull I made a fiberglass rib. To get the correct shape, some copper house wire is used.

Cut out and the inside marked to get removed.

Inside cut out. The two holes are for wiring and the co2 line.

I fiberglassed part of the bow because access to this area isn't needed.

    Trimmed.

Here is my planned propulsion setup for this ship. A dual output gearbox with a special plate to mount a brushless motor (courtesy of @Charley).
    IMG_20180127_152345.jpg
I connected the shafts directly to the gearbox to eliminate the need for a universal joint. I'll bet even @SteveT44's shafts aren't that perfectly aligned. ;)

That's it for now folks. Hope you enjoy!

I just noticed the trick with the wire to pick up the shape of the hull. That is a great technique. I am *SO* stealing that : P

Be my guest. Especially since I so shamelessly stole it from @SteveT44. :D

Cut and epoxied in the rear subdeck yesterday and cut out the rough blank for the forward subdeck tonight. Will work on finishing and installing it through the week.

    Next will be decks.

Had a lazy weekend (as far as boat building goes) but I did manage to finish the forward subdeck.
    IMG_20180204_201009.jpg
Next I'll work on decks or maybe gluing in the stuffing tubes.

Scroll saw is the tool of choice.

If you can get an electric jigsaw from Harbor Freight ($20-$30) it would make cutting the ribs a whole lot easier. If not, cutting by hand works too. (go ahead and cancel your gym membership though ;))

Good time to get a Dremel or a oscillating saw.

$20 to $25 dollars at Harbor Freight. More at the big box stores.

You can buy a cheap knock off dremel at walmart for $20 the cut off wheels that come with it are garbage and shatter on contact so do not try to use them. Buy the dremel branded ones and you will be good.
