I did it before on my Vittorio Veneto and it looked pretty good. People always ask how the planes fit in the hangars especially the funnel side hangars.

One of the cranes is nearly completed. I put the rear arch section on the back and the 2 rods that extend downward from that on. I filled in open base cavity with a block of wood which I will attach bits of detail . I mounted the crane on a circular wood base and placed in position on the deck to see where the top of the crane will be positioned. Just need to add cables and pulleys to the crane and then I can paint it. After that work on making the second crane.
The Aerial recognition bands didn't work out again. Paint bubbling and overspray. The stencil I used worked great but where I used spray adhesive to tack it on , when the paint dried I peeled it off and it pulled off the red paint. So I ended up sanding down both ends again, putty , sand and painted with a primer grey. Hopefully this evening I can finally get this portion done.

Cut a stencil in Frog tape. It looks like green masking tape. You can buy it at home improvement places. It provides a perfect seal, won't pull paint off, super crisp lines.

I know of that tape. I haven't seen it here locally. I was checking the forums for my old topics on the refit and found photos how I had tackled this. I did use painters tape and covered the deck, cut out a circle and like you said, used the tape as a stencil. It worked well from what I seen on the photos. Thanks for suggesting that I had completely forgotten. Another issue I had is the temperature in the yard has been cold and getting colder. The heat is not on till late at night. I don't have control of the heat. That is affecting how the paint is drying and how the putty is drying. Also I think using oil based with waterbase may have the paint being attacked in some way. What I did was just use the water base primers instead. The weather here has been terrible with snow and rain mixed and with icebergs in the area has kept the temperature cold. I may have to wait till the temperatures come back up so I can tackle this properly. I am going to try to get Bis in the paint booth with the small heater portable heater in the booth to bring it up to room temperature and tackle it from there. It's awkward and barely elbow room but the weather here is not going to improve till at least next Wednesday.

I did repaint the sides of the secondaries and painted their barrels black. Need to add a little flat white at the base of the barrel as it exits the face of the turret. I started smoothing out the bridge with putty which will need to be sanded and painted then the windows and doors can be added. I finished the first crane and it just needs to be installed to the deck. I started the black hull stripes both sides.

Thanks Mike for the tip. Going to do that method this evening and that should finally fix it.

First Crane is aboard. I finally solved the issue with the red bans and white circle. Right now the white bands are drying. , the dark shades of grey are now on the bow and stern. The white portion of the stripes are drying on the hull, painted the white areas on the secondary barrels, started work on the 2nd crane,2 life boats painted up .

Checked the white circles on the red bans on the deck of Bismarck and happy to say this time they came out well. Hope to finish them the weekend and touch up the stripes on the hull. After that the stripes running up the superstructure is next.

Swastikas are on deck , hull stripes nearly done. Finished up the stern false waves, repainted the main deck in spots particularly the bow section, repainted the secondary turret barrels with a flat black this time and the dummy barrels on the main turrets. I received my AA gun small turrets today and I must say they are very nicely detailed. Looking forward to getting those aboard the model.

Touched up the main deck and applied the deck lines. Touched up the 5.9 in secondaries and added the small gun range finders on the two 5.9 in secondary turrets. Installed barrels to the 10.5 cm AA turrets, painted them. Attached the 5.9 secondaries and 10.5cm AA turrets to the model.

Not for a while. Going away this weekend and with Mother's day and my 1st year wedding anniversary this Monday probably won't be till the end of next week before I can get a pic up. I been utilizing the small amount of time to get work done on the model.
Update on that nearly finished the 2nd crane last night, just need to make a few more things for it then paint and attach it to the deck. I put additional brass sleeves on the dummy barrels which look much better now.

2nd Crane is aboard with additional detail added to both cranes. Both breakwaters are on deck , just need paint. Jack staff is installed at the bow with flag hoisted. Both port and starboard and stern anchor are attached. Catapult is assembled and just needs to be attached midships. Captains are made and are in the paint booth drying. I made them to look the shape they are and they will be painted correctly. Once aboard the anchor and stern chains will be attached. The breakwaters need to be painted.
I will be back at it again hopefully tomorrow evening . The catapult should be attached by then along with the capstains and chains for the anchors. I found several items I can use for the hose reels on deck . I will finish up the funnel cap piping. I doubt I will have it finished totally by the weekend but the model is going out to the pond this weekend for sailing and photos. I hope to bring Missouri along too for the sail.

Breakwaters painted, anchors painted, Capstans painted and attached. Chains attached to them and to the anchors. I noticed the midships section of my starboard waterline is high so I may have to remove the tape and move it down further. I may wait till after the weekend to do that as the model will be going out this weekend.
Catapult is installed, pulleys attached to it's ends, main armament barrels painted flat black, bridge face is sanded and repainted, touchups light grey done around the model.
More work to be done yet. Will try to get pics this evening and post tomorrow or this evening but it will be late posting.

Here are some pics. I didn't have time to get great pics but will have some of the model on the water this weekend with the stuff on board up to this point. Hope to get one plane on board and another funnel crane made this evening.

I almost had these placed on opposite sides. Need more coffee for late night work.

Using Waterline pinstripe I was able to get the full amount of windows on the bridge face. The windows should be smaller but hey this is semi scale after all.
